I disagree 100%.  But, as you said, it is a preference thing.  To each his own, right?

I would never do 1/4 of the shit the MC does in this game, but I am really enjoying living vicariously through the main character as HE does them!  LOL

My only complaint along the lines of characters would have to be Klaus.  If THAT guy found a gruesome death somewhere before the end of the game, I just may sleep a tiny bit better at night!  LOL

But, your objectivity in the face of your own reservations is quite commendable!  Bravo, sir.

And @Xiongmao, you have a GREAT game here, sir!  Keep up the good work, please!

A House In The Rift will not save my preferences... ever.  I open the game, mute the audio and skip unseen text, exit the game, open the game and the settings are reset. Things I have tried:

1) I deleted "persistent" in saves folder.

2) I then also deleted  all other saves except the one I saved from older versions.

3) Then I also went to my "C:\Users\LordOfAllCreation\AppData\Roaming" and deleted the entire damned RenPy folder there.  This removed all game save subfolders for all 22 RenPy games I have played, AND their settings. (I made a zipfile backup of it first, of course).

My process was step 1, test it (open game, change preferences, exit game, open game, listen for music).  Steps 1 & 2, test it again.  Steps 1 & 2 & 3, test it again.

No matter what I do, there is never a change.  Is this a bug or deliberate? t is SUPER frustrating to hear the music cut into my music already playing in the background from Youtube.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure the README covers it, but in PC version, I unzip the new one into the it's own folder, then I enter the subfolder of "game" on the old one and right click "saves" folder, select Copy. then enter the "game" folder on the new one and paste it in there.  Done.  Once I tested my saves in the new one, I delete the entire old version's folder.

LOL!!  I'm ashamed to say it took me about 30 seconds of tilting my head like the RCA dog until it clicked... and then I laughed my ass off on the way to my kitchen to get a beer.

I noticed that, too.  I think it is location based like the elf girl.  Like a "time and place" thing.

You didn't mention what platform you play on.  I am just another player and I'm no authority on this, but for what it's worth, this method has worked unerringly on every Ren'Py game I've ever played... on Windows/Linux:

I download the whole game at every update.

Unzip/extract the new one into it's own auto-named folder (matching the filename downloaded).

First, BEFORE I even run the new game, I go to the OLD version game folder, "game", and locate the "saves" folder in there, I right click that guy and select Copy.

Then I go to the NEW version game folder I just unzipped/unpacked into. I right click the folder named "game" and select Paste.

In a few seconds, it copies every single saved game into the new install. Now I run the NEW version's .SH or .EXE and load up a couple of my favorite saves and immediately re-save over them as a means of confirming my favorites are saved in the newest format(just in case anything changed in the way it is written.

After I play the new one for a bit and save again to a brand new slot and I'm convinced there is no issues, I exit the game and delete the OLD install completely.

It may seem lengthy, but it has been fool-proof for me so far.  Never a single lost saved game unless the Dev completely changed everything, but they are pretty good about warning of that beforehand.  And if you skip a version release when you update, it's not as guaranteed to work.

I hope that helps somebody out there.

OMG, RUNEY42!!!  What he said!

Since this is my first itch.io post ever, I deeply pondered whether or not to say anything comically witty in it.  I've decided to go with blunt honesty.

I downloaded Harem Hotel just to see if the sexy scenes were as good as the preview screenshots looked.  And I was pleasantly surprised.  Then it started introducing the various characters and I started getting into an ACTUAL STORY behind it all.  Very cool.

Every character is well written, but 4 of them are on another level and just amazing and actually enthralled me!

It has been DECADES since I felt such such an attachment to a fictional character as I feel for Lin.  I want a REAL Lin of my very own, dammit!  She is so perfectly sculpted into the absolute ideal fantasy slave/pet/lover/waifu/etc.  Well done, sir.  Well done indeed.

The other 3 are Ashley, Maria, and Android.  Now, I'm an American male construction worker in my late 40's, not some "sissified millennial" (no offense intended to anybody), so this testimonial is costing me a little of my soul.  These 3 actually jerked tears out of me, with Ashley being the OMG WORST!  She left a huge pit in my heart for about a week.  And after "The Hospital Scene", I was pissed off at the world for 3 days!  I even had guys at work avoiding me and my negative attitude.  LOL

Runey42, you have a masterpiece in your hands here.  I may have grumbled to myself something like, "*#&$@% Runey!... I was only looking for fap-tastic animations and that friggin jerk actually made me CRY?!  WTF?!", but this CLEARLY means you are doing something VERY right!  PLEASE keep up the good work!!

(You have my blessing to use this post in any way that may help you, Runey42.)
