Hi Kyle,

Glad you are enjoying it, and thanks for giving the games a shot!

> Are [Aces and 3's] up for grabs when anyone acclimates, and just not affected by "keeping things current"?

That's correct, either player can acclimate with any of the available Aces and 3's on a turn (not just the topmost in each stack), and they are not affected by "keeping things current."

> what are they used for, or how do you obtain them?

3's are played like the other numeric cards—they have an acclimate value of 3 and a cost of 3. Aces are mostly like face cards in that they have a cost of fifteen and are worth ten points at the very end of the game, but they have an acclimate value of one (this bit is in with the face card section under "Acclimating", but it's outside the context of them being set to the side).

Aces and 3's are not replaced by a card from the acclimation deck once taken by a player. Replacing cards only applies to the acclimation row (the five cards that cycle through when you "keep things current"). So all Aces and 3's are available from the start until they are gone but nothing will go into their spot once taken.

I hope that clarifies things; let me know if you have more questions or feedback!

Cheers,

Thomas

Hello again, thanks for playing!

- You are correct, there are not personal discard piles for this one. I adjusted the Trailblazing section help reinforce this point.

- You are correct, the top card is not adjacent to the card beneath it. (It might be a fun variant to add a bit of a bonus for reaching the top card and giving players the choice between extending their journey to the left or right before reaching the top or getting there for the bonus)

Cheers!

Hi there, thanks for trying the game! Feel free to download the newest version of the game—there are a few edits that may help clarify things.

You draw from your personal deck, and discard to your personal discard pile. When you acclimate from the center, the card you select also goes to your personal discard. Whenever you need to draw and are out of cards in your personal deck, you shuffle your personal discard pile and flip it over—it's now your deck!

So you start with three cards (2,4,7) in your deck. The first turn you play those three cards and then they go into your personal discard pile along with any cards you acclimated to in the first turn. Then, at the end of your turn, you draw three cards. You have no cards left to draw, and so you shuffle your personal discard pile, flip it over, and draw three cards. Over time you will grow your deck, but you continue to cycle through your personal deck/discard pile as you acclimate.

Let me know if you have further questions. Hope you enjoy!

I'm glad the gift made someone happy and I hope you enjoy the rest of the games. Cheers and happy new year!

Hi there, thank you for your feedback! I've adjusted a few things in the PDF (now updated). To your points:

  1. Players are forced to play all of the cards in their hands, even the cards they cannot or do not want to play on a turn. I've edited the "Personal decks" section for clarity and it now reads, "Cards may go unused on a turn but are still discarded."
  2. The personal decks section now reads, "You will draw cards from your evolving personal deck and discard to your personal discard pile."
  3. I made a couple additions like the one above and included your suggestion in the diagram, thanks!
  4. I adjusted the wording in the example "Salmon plays each card in her hand" which should hopefully clarify things with the change from 1 above.
  5. I've adjusted the "School's in session" variant in a couple of ways. The diamonds bonus is an extra level of strategy that parallels the suit bonuses, so I think it makes sense to remove it in this variant. I agree Jokers are also not necessary in this context, and have updated the variant to remove them as well. I also added "(see “Variants” for a first playthrough)" at the beginning of the rules.

Thank you again for playing and providing feedback. I hope these adjustments clarify things for you and other folks in the future!
