I definitely did not consider ultra-wide monitors. I'll have to fix these issues for sure, thanks a lot.
I love that you took a video. You totally got the hang of it now it appears.
Genuine question: did you notice what the score updated to when you hit a target when you were at 0?
Edit: PS: You're the very first person other than me to get a score of 0!
An exceptionally polished game, to the point of being almost unbelievable that this was made in only 4 days. The game design is very well thought out. This had me scratching by head, trying to come up with the most optimal tile placement. Really scratches that min/max itch. The animations and feedback when you finally close that big cluster that's you've been working on is super well done. Makes the effort all worth it. If it was me, I would lean even more into that, maybe recount all the tiles at the end of a level and watch your score being added before opening the update windows.
Small things: The music is great at first but quickly becomes repetitive.
There doesn't seem to be anything to do with the theme of this jam. For all we know, this could have been worked on for months and released just now. I'm not saying that's what you did, but game jams having a theme to prevent people from doing exactly that is kind of the whole point.
Apart from that, this game is a gem!
First off, thank you so much for taking the time to write this critique. I'm still working on the project (it's a delight to work on and I have tons of ideas), and that kind of comment is super valuable. I do have some questions though.
Hitting a target lowers the score, and then the next target, if its timer runs out, increases the score once. There is actually no way to regress back multiple times like in your exemple, from 7 to 10... Unless I've missed a bug somewhere? But honestly I don't feel like I would have missed a detail that obvious and important.
Increasing the timer and making it stricter as your score lowers down is a good idea. I like that.
As for the fullscreen issue. What is your monitor size? I'll have to fix that up for sure.
Oh nooo !! I just want to say, I don't want to spoil anything but I can say with confidence you that it did not go back to 1!
Try again and you'll see. Something great will happen, you can trust me :)
Edit: Whoops. I misunderstood. It went back to 1 because of the target timer right? I incorrectly read that you hit a target at 0 and it went back to 1.
Cool and cute concept. I almost got to a hundred. It's pretty challenging at first but after getting the same levels repeatedly it gets pretty easy. Also the the fact that when you get a coloured plate you know for sure there is an interaction that needs to be done with it made it super easy.
Anway, cool one :)
A game where you literally count down. Surprisingly the first one I see that does that. Pretty much the perfect game for this theme. Getting interrupted and having to do math while having to remember your last number is super clever. Just a quick little thing, I don't think you should be able to choose to add seconds to the timer even though it's not unlocked yet. Made me wonder if there was a hidden timer or something. Apart from that I believe this is a little hidden gem in this jam!
Terraforming + time system? That's pretty impressive that you made that in only 4 days. Didn't get into any bugs or anything too. Very well made, although I might say, while it does technically fit the theme of the jam because of the time restriction, it doesn't really feel like a "count down" game. Otherwise this is a really great prototype. Let me know if you continue development!
That other person is me. You are the very first person that beat the game!
I’m adding new effects to the game as we speak. I have a ton of ideas and the development is really really fun. I’ll let you know when I update the game if you want. I might release it on Steam.
Anyway. Congrats on reaching the elite leaderboard!
(ps: you can get even better than 11…)
