Cool choice combining horror with deckbuilder, and I love the art style! Sound effects also worked well with the gameplay, I just found the combat tutorial a bit rushed, as I couldn't control the pace that it progressed, and I ended up missing some information that probably would have helped me understand the game better, but overall a very good job!
The color shield was a really cool game mechanic, the dialogue was funny, and the upgrade system made each playthrough more interesting because I could experiment with different builds. Unfortunately I don't have a game pad at the moment so I played on KBM, but I still enjoyed it even though it was a bit awkward feeling, I could imagine it feeling much more natural with dual stick on a game pad. Nice work!
I managed to beat all the levels and collect all the stars! This was genuinely a pleasure to play through, the level design was intelligent, the music and artwork combined to create a wonderfully melancholy atmosphere, and the light decay mechanic was something I'd never seen or thought of, but fits so perfectly into the theme. I'm also super impressed you managed to build so many levels considering it must have taken a lot of trial and error to get the puzzle designs just right. Well done!
I achieved a high score of 12700 points, it felt like a pretty satisfying gameplay loop! I just wish there were more types of enemies or different level designs, but given the time constraints of the game jam I'm still very impressed! The music was catchy and had me in the zone zapping robots, graphics were a pleasing retro style. Awesome work!
Thank you so much for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I actually do plan on creating new game modes and further polishing the game, adding new levels etc. I am considering hiring a graphic designer as I am more of a programmer myself and most of the art was creative commons art minus the mushroom pack which I paid about 5 bucks for because I loved it. The rest was done in Aesprite by myself but art definitely is not my strength xD
Again, thank you for playing and your helpful feedback!
I think I broke the game because my levels were going up so fast and there were so many particles on my screen my computer almost melted haha. I loved it, I think there needs to be a cap on the decrease of thermal reactions though because I got it down to zero, or close enough that I wasn't generating heat anymore. Overall, great game!
The graphics are incredibly good, the parallax background adds a lot of depth to the scene, but I wish there were some sound effects! I also really wish I could jump and shoot without being stopped mid-air, that kinda made the combat a lot more punishing, and since the enemies just kept coming for what seemed like forever on the first level, I died... over and over again lol. I also feel like there needs to be something to make the gathering part feel more rewarding because I spent a lot of time running and spamming E. Maybe some different terrain, places you have to jump or climb to get to, enemies guarding more valuable resources, etc. Tons of potential there though, I think if you could make this into a full game with these additions, and polish the combat and movement mechanics, I would buy this game.
Man... I think this game has so much potential. I would love to see some item / effect that would slow down the reel so you have more of a chance of hitting the item you want, because right now it leans a bit too heavily on luck imo. Other than that, graphics / animations are solid, audio is great, and I enjoyed my playthrough :)
