It’s been over a year but I keep thinking about this: an account made two days after this game released, whose only activity to-date is making this comment. It’s probably a bot. But if not, what justice or empathy did they choose in the year that’s passed?
The Nakba still hasn’t ended: see the recent March of the Thousands and further annexation of the West Bank. Foreign officials and companies are drawing plans for their “new Gaza”, their genocidal “Gaza Riviera”, about a century after the British Empire drew up its Mandate for Palestine.
The largest-ever civilian aid flotilla, Sumud, took sail last Fall to break Israel’s naval blockade. A new generation in every country is aware of the crime, and pressure to change is building. It’s unclear how that will play out in the political structure of every complicit nation, but it will play out.
I wanted this game to be about more than inaction (whether that’s from feckless neutralism, apathy, or helplessness). I hope our grief becomes resolve. We owe it to one another to fight until the day we’re all free, to “drag the world our dead deserved” ever closer. Free Palestine.
