This is a wildly excellent book that is one of the best reads I've had in the last few years. Beautiful prose, is just a pleasure to read beginning to end, incredible tension. There's such a phenomenal sense of atmosphere here. The worldbuilding is smart and interesting and titrates itself through the book so smartly, it brings the reader along without frontloading anything, allowing for a beautiful feeling of discovery. Special shout to any history nerds who also like sexual tension: you will LOVE this. It's literary, it's hot, it's an excellent read. Treat yourself.
