Hey guys ! I'm a belgian (french speaking) music composer and I'm very interested in participating but I don't know if any chill team is in need of a music composer ? I can do backup illustrations if necessary but just so you know: If you only need an illustrator,  I'm probably not suitable, I'm more interested in making music tbh, illustrations are just the cherry on the top -just to better sell myself haha-.

I'm still a newbie in music composing (I did some VN projects, participated in composition jams and did short film's OST's but never tried 8bit music seriously, just so you know, but I learn fast !).

I'm so so sorry for the late response, I just came back from holidays ! 

Coming from you, it's an honour, thank you so so much, I'm very touched by your comment. 

I relistened to my track while I was reading you just so I knew what you meant and, with time, I can finally step back and have a fresh view of it. I realised with the choir part that I was greatly influenced by a specific videogame OST without even realise it : NieR Automata, did you have a chance to play it ? I think you would LOVE the OST by Yoko Taro, this is one of the best that I heard in my life, the choir and singing voices are absolutely fantastic (And it is an incredible game in general. I remember the feeling when I first played the demo on PS4, I ran to buy the game the same day even know I was still a broke student. I ate pasta for the rest of the month and I regret NOTHING). A big melting pot of influences as well but the narration of it, god, I wish I could touch a bit of this feeling with my work as well one day !

Anyway, enough of me, your work is stunning and I hope to see you on the next one, I'm so excited to listen to other pieces from you in the future !

Hey, I just came back from holiday, I'm so sorry I didn't respond to you earlier ! Thank you so much for your feedback, I didn't realize the part that you mention was missleading, it's very interesting ! I will pay close attention of these kind of things next time. Hope to see you on the next one, I'm excited to hear your work again, you're a great composer and your analyses are always very clear and usefull !

Hey ! Sorry for the late reply, I was on holidays in Scotland where there was absolutely zero network. I know the jam is over but let me say thank you so much for your feedback ! 

For the choir VST, I have Omnia but I didn't use it this time, I used sort of a vocaloid type of plugin by Dreamtonics called Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro if I remember correctly. They have three choir voices pack which are really nice ! It is quite pricey I'm not gonna lie (you need to buy the plugin which comes with one "free" voice but if you want other voices or choir, you have to buy it as addition... and it is not cheap) . The parameters are really easy to set up like the tremolo, the smooth notes change, the breathiness of the voices and you can separate in four different voices Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass that you can control individually the way you prefers. It is build like a vocaloid so it is based from real voices. You can write lyrics and it will be interpreted as sounds (most of the voices supports chinese or japanese languages but there's quite a lot that also supports english and spanish. The specific choir that I use supports chinese and english if I remember correctly). In my opinion, the plus of this plugin specifically is that I find it quite realistic for a vocaloid plugin. I use it a lot for songs demos since I'm not the skillest singer in the world lol. It gives a decent basis to work.

I like this plugin honestly, not easy to set up sometimes and it takes A LOT of ram so, if you want it, I hope you have relatively good PC components (I have a Macbook Pro M2 16gb ram , just so you know). There's a lot of downsizes compare to other plugins but, hey, the overall feeling of it makes me like it anyway.

Thank you so much for your advice ! I know it could be very bad ear fatigue  (I'm not used to be on a track with time pressure like that so I think my brain fried or something haha). I think that I prefered the track before the mix so the frustration build up little by little, I just need to learn how to deal with that feeling. But I totally agree on the mids and lows, I will be more cautious on that matter for the next time. 

Your track is amazing and I'm indredibly glad to have been on the same jam as so muck talented and kind people like you, all thanks to you !

The melody is very memorable ! What a great job with so little time, I'm very impressed ! 

The only thing that confused me was the synth's part. Don't get me wrong : the melody is great, really, I loved it, it's just the synth choice that I'm confuse with haha. I think it feels a bit "aggressive" compared to the rest of this beautiful piece. I think an electric guitar would have been great but, if you want to keep the digital feeling of it, replacing this synth with a theremin-like sound for exemple could keep the feeling of the instrument but reduce the aggressive tone of it in some ways (and could give you a reeaaaally nice portamento on top of it). 

But that's the only critiscism that came into my mind, I really enjoyed listening your track, you did a great job at conveying feelings and emotions. That's why I think you're a really great composer ! I'm just sad that you didn't post any socials so I can listen to more of your works but I understand. I just hope to see you in another jam some day.

Thank you so much ! Yeah I think that I was just very tired haha, it makes me feel a liitle bit better to know that it is not as bad as I thought. I also think that the mids are way to present so this is really good advice, thank you ! I'm always so scared to let the lows taking too much space in my mixes -it is something that I did a lot when I started- so I guess I'm too self-conscious about it now haha. You did an amazing job with your guitar on your track, it was very nice and refreshing to hear some acoustic instrument ! Good job to you too !

 I find your track very original and unique to the subject (which, in my opinion, is a good thing !). The only thing that I can say (again, in my opinion and I just talk about this event in particular because the track in itself is amazing quality) is that I would love a longer or a more progressive build up on the intro but it is just my personnal feeling because I love intros haha. Really good job, you're a great guitarist ! Well done !

If only I had more time and energy, I would have done a lot of things very differently but the ear fatigue was very strong at some point so I just gave up haha. Well, that's a banger over here ! I especially love the sort of fluttering piccolo/strings here and there. I would say the same thing as CuyGuy on the instruments panning but that's really the only criticism that I have in stock haha. You did make clearly one of the best performances of this jam in my opinion ! Well done, I would love to see more of your works in the future ! 🧙‍♂️

Really nice track ! I like the way you represented time and nostalgia, it works so well. It's hard for me to find criticismto say about it haha, I just like it the way it is (especially for the very short time that you had). In the future tho, if you want to push it further,  maybe it would be nice to add even more variety with different little sounds here and there but you already delivered a great job with the emotional feeling of it in my opinion ! 🧙‍♂️ Well done !
