I...feel like a fool, but I cannot find an option anywhere to actually buy this game here on itch.io?

Ah, you're right about the arcade cabinet!

Excellent, thanks!

My thumbnails don't seem to update regularly, especially anything above slot 4.

Still my favorite transformer.  Well, except Shockwave maybe.

Nah, that's not Simon.  There's no yellow and notice the shapes of the colors, lack of center panel.  It's not one of the newer versions either.

I'm positive it's supposed to be one of these guys from 1953 WotW:

https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/waroftheworlds/images/6/6e/War_of_Worlds02.jpg

or

https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/waroftheworlds/images/4/40/War_of_the_Worlds_screen2.jpg

The RGB thing is also perfect for a projector.

...what I'm NOT sure about is what the thing under the "face" is supposed to be.  Not sure if that's some form of the martians I don't remember, if it's some other reference, just random, stylized version of their bodies, etc.

On the BB8/R2 - I first thought it was an R2, and I agree it's not a perfect match for BB8 (missing some greebles, paint, is way too big).  But it doesn't match any variety of R2 unit either (even less than it matches BB-8's head), and I feel like they wouldn't add a SECOND R2 unit (and the one on the right absolutely is).  You might be right, and I'm not convinced it's BB8, but I'm going to say I think it's really unlikely to be an R2.  Now I'm betting it's something else entirely.

1920x1080 here,.

Just curious, any thoughts at this point when you guys might release the next build?

I'd mentioned it (along with a bunch of other things that people have reported since) in my chapter 1 feedback post here (which I'm still hoping people make their own comments on, and was trying not to spam the forums with a post for everything I mentioned), but assuming people see "text wall" and gloss over it.

I really should have broken up my long chapter 1 feedback into different posts I guess =)

Looks like for me, saving n the "Home" room (with the TV/projector) doesn't work, but saving in the workshop does.

Unfortunately that's why (beta) testing often requires either/both a very strict, comprehensive list of things to try and in certain orders, or a regular, fresh supply of people to try new things for the first time.  =)

He does that in a bunch of places too; scenes/situations every time you click with the hand ANYWHERE you just get a "nope, uh uh"-type response.  The pod is another big one, that seems to happen really consistently.  But it seems to happen intermittently other places too.  I was even getting if I tried to skip dialog in cut scenes after the pod.

I'm guessing/hoping it's a general bug with the same root cause as why he gets stuck saying the last thing from before going through the vacuum tubes, and a couple other similar bugs.

Eh, I've seen worse first beta versions.  It's (just about) feature and content complete and in bug squashing/optimization/cleanup phase, that's pretty beta.

There's also like an SLI video card here to the right of Soundwave, and is that hexagon thing a reference o anything?

I get that occasionally, but not often.  It seems like maybe if I highlight an item while the menu "opening" animation is playing.  Or something.  I can't get it to happen reliably so far.

Ok, I figured it might be nice to go off-topic from bug hunting for something a little more fun.  Marked as "spoiler" since people who haven't gotten this far won't have seen this stuff yet.

But I LOVE, love the art in Scraps' garage and the density of details and sci-fi references.  With of course, the best being the "Home" scene, the junk/TV room upstairs from the garage.  And I thought it'd be fun to see how many references we can identify.

Edit: Probably helps to zoom since it's pretty small picture here in the forum thread.  In Chrome, right click and "Open in new tab", in Firefox, "View Image".  Then can zoom more as needed)

I'll start with the ones I think I've found (which I don't think are even half of what's here):

From left to right, top half:
- Pong machine (apparently Clucky Chicken went with a retro cab design)  Edit:  was wrong, this is Computer Space, see below
- Commodore 64, second model
- "The Robot" (Lost in Space)
- Weighted Companion Cube (Portal)
- I dunno, an old Goldstar black-and-white TV?
- BB-8
- Klaatu?
- Not sure what or even if the planetarium or swordfish ("bladefish") are references to.  I thought the planetarium thing might be from Dark Crystal, but no.
- Master Chief (Halo)
- Voyager Gold Record
- I think the "holochess" table rom Star Wars
- A Dalek carcass with an R2 unit's head welded on, which works better than you'd think

Left to right, bottom half:

- That orange thing must be  reference to something, but I can't place it.
- Tom Servo (MST3k)
- I think the projector is supposed to be made out of one of the martians from War of the Worlds - V.I.N.CENT (The Black Hole)
- Crow T. Robot (MST3K)
- The little training "remote" droid from Star Wars
- The hand of the Iron Giant
- Not sure what that last silhouette is - it kinda looks like Discovery One from 2001, but the body's wrong.  I was thinking maybe Cambot from MST3k or maybe some Klingon ship from Star Trek, but don't think those are it either.  Maybe it's just junk?

Anyway, there's  BUNCH more to find, curious what else people see =)

Edit:  Fixed some formatting munging

For me, I get a regular exit icon in the lower right every time a game is over (although like you said, escape kills the whole application).

I find also that once you play one game, exit, then come back - that no pipes ever show up again.

Wish I could change the topic.  But anyway, at this point I've also tried saving in 3 different rooms in Chapter 2; loading all take me back to the pod when you first get the phone call.

I just reported the same over in the General Bugs forum because I thought it was affecting saves from Chapter 1 too.  But guess not.

In my case now I've tried saving in the garage, upstairs, and outside (during the meteor storm).  All take me back to the pod on load.

It's a really annoying place to have it restart you at too, because it's right before a whole bunch of cutscenes, most of which you can't skip much or at all =)

Eh, I'm probably guessing wrong on the bug at least, too (I'll try to stop speculating).  In all the "pod" save games it seems like "currentRoom" is explicitly set to "17_escapepod_int_drifting" so it's probably not just dying while dumping out state.

Wait, I guess I'm partly wrong.  The list of saves and their details goes like this, in chronological order of save:

Slot 4 - loads red hallway
Slot 3 - loads slime pit room
Slot 6 - loads pod (I think I saved this in the pod so is "right")
Slot 5 - loads pod (I think I saved this at Scraps' originally)
Slot 2 - loads red hallway (this was after I started a new game)
Slot 1 - Loads pod (I THOUGHT this was a save game for the crate hallway at the beginning of the game, on my second playthrough.  And that's what the thumbnail shows.  But I MIGHT have saved over it with something much later)
Slot 7 - loads pod (was saved at Scraps, most recent)

I notice that all the "pod" ones are almost identical in size within a couple bytes, 933KB.  Doing a little brief inspecting it seems like maybe you're serializing state of all the rooms to disk, but just truncating after the pod state?  Either hitting some size limit or some exception and stopping there maybe?

Nice list (and I hit a bunch of these including a couple I forgot to mention, several I know other people hit too).  Probably good to put most of this in the Chapter 1 feedback though

(1 edit)

I'm not sure when this started, but at the moment I have 6 saved game slots showing something in them, but when I load ANY of them it loads the same point - just after the escape pod launch, when you get the phone call.  That includes games I saved BEFORE that point, and ones I saved after I started a new game (but before I got to the escape pod).

Not sure what else to test/report except playing around with this a bunch, let me know if any extra details could help or if there's any point if you guys are still majorly working on saved game handling (sounds like it) - but obviously this is a game-breaking bug, whatever I've hit.

Yeah, I definitely get the impression I hit WAY more bugs because I was tending to look at everything, click on everything, etc.  Partly because I tend to like to explore a scene before I do much, but also because especially in the first half of Chapter 1 (including the flooded elevator scene) I was still trying to "learn" the interface and what I could/couldn't do and etc.  Which took a lot longer because of the bugs and things.

When I did my second walkthrough and I was definitely "trying" a lot fewer things, I also hit fewer things that confused the crap out of me or just seemed fundamentally broken (like suddenly being unable to walk at all, which I hit in the flooded elevator first time through and can't reproduce now).

I ended up trying both, still nothing.  Might still be missing exactly what you did, though.

Yeah, I re-downloaded it and it was the one I already had tested; I assumed that maybe they'd posted a really quick second version with a last-minute fix that first day, but your explanation makes sense.

Just making sure there wasn't a version with changes that I'd missed (there wasn't).

There's a version 2?

Agree, my personal problems with it were much worse as well (I couldn't walk around at all on first playthrough, lack of response to stuff, etc).

Right (correct)

...even f I interact (turn off) the switch on the left side, I can still interact with the right ladder fine.

...In fact at that point I stopped being able to swing across back o the right.  But I COULD interact with the ladder from the middle of the platform - Ace climbs the ladder, slewing across the screen to the right as he "climbs" back to the top, where things were normal again.

Then I couldn't swing back across to the left, which is game-breaking I believe.

I can't reproduce this.  Not sure about the screen panning thing, but if I "interact" with the control panel by using the hand on it, looking at it, etc I can still climb the ladder.  Even after swinging across, back, and then trying to touch the control panel (which he refuses) again.

To Ravical - You should be able to select Rooter's head in inventory, then drag the correct socket onto it.  Then use the combined rooter+socket head on the panel.

To Gambo - it sounds like you generally have it right, although it sounds like you're actually trying to combine 3 parts?  Should only need 2.  And you can separate the Rooter+socket combination by dragging the Rooter head to an empty slot (breaks the two apart).  Once you have the right socket installed in Rooter's head (it sounds like you might not), you should be able to just select that from inventory, then click on the panel.

There's a bunch of posts on this, but it's pretty universally agreed this isn't intuitive at all and the guys say they're working on improving it for the next build.

(1 edit)

I mentioned a bunch of things (including these two) in my Chapter 1 Playthrough Feedback post, I wonder if I should just break that out into a bunch of different posts (and more screenshots like you have here)

(1 edit)

had the same problem, and I'm doing 1920x1080.  At least on desktop.

It also just makes no sense why you'd have to move box 1 before box 2. That is throwing a bunch of people off (is one thing that definitely threw me off)

I didn't cover some of the things like the inventory usability issues, either, since they seem to be pretty well-covered at this point and Chris said they're working on it.

Should we report things like this for now?  There's a ton of examples of missing/broken  item text, and ones especially like this (where they look like they were flagged for review or something with the "**") make me assume you guys are aware.

Agree, this bugged me too.  Also got mentioned yesterday:
