It's been a little while since v0.7.0, so here's everything that's changed. Short version: the game plays the same, but you can now fight a friend, and it finally looks like an arcade game.

LOCAL VS: FIGHT A FRIEND

Two players on one keyboard, or plug in a controller each. Pick LOCAL VS on the title screen and both players choose a fighter.

- Player 1: A / D / S to move, Shift to rotate, Space to drop, C to hold, Q W E F to attack, R to guard

- Player 2: arrow keys to move and rotate, and the numpad for the rest (0 drop, 7 hold, 4 5 6 9 attack, 8 guard)

A NEW BATTLE SCREEN

The whole fight screen has been rebuilt:

- The boards are the star now, with arcade frames and blocks that have real depth and shine

- Your HOLD piece shows during the match

- The fighters sit beside their health bars and react when they take a hit or land a guard

- The centre is open: a big VS, a crown, and the stage behind it

A STADIUM TO FIGHT IN

Steel arches, lighting rigs, spotlights cutting through the haze, and a crowd split blue and red down the middle. It reacts to the fight: land a Limit and the crowd gets up.

NEW LETTERING

Proper fonts at last. Names, callouts and menus are chunkier and more arcade, and the numbers and combat log are cleaner to read mid-fight.

FIXES

- Damage numbers no longer print over the fighter's name

- "+ATTACK" garbage labels no longer pile on top of each other or cover the HOLD box

WHAT HASN'T CHANGED

Every attack, fighter, cost and rule plays exactly like v0.7.0. If you'd learned the game, you still know it.

WHAT'S NEXT

On the road to 1.0:

- A pause menu and settings (volume and friends)

- Rounds: best of three, with a proper VS screen and victory screen

- Two more fighters, each with their own style of garbage

- An arcade ladder: a run of fights with an ending

- Each piece shape getting its own fixed colour

STILL EARLY

Sound effects are placeholders and there's no music yet.

Every match you play is saved as a small replay file on your own computer:

%APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata\BLOCK BRAWLERS\playtests\

Nothing is uploaded. If you send that folder along with your feedback, I can watch exactly how your matches went.

Thanks to everyone who played v0.7.0. Keep the feedback coming!

What if you played a fighting game by playing Tetris? Clearing lines builds your meter, and spending it is the only thing that does damage: attack, guard, or save up for a Super. Knock them out, or bury them in garbage.

New? Hit TUTORIAL on the title screen. It's about two minutes, and it teaches everything by playing.

This is an early build: single player vs the CPU, three fighters (BALANCE, RUSH, TANK), placeholder sound, no music yet.

What I'd love to hear:

  1. In your first minute, what did you think the goal was?
  2. When you attacked, did you understand what it cost you?
  3. Did you figure out Guard, and did you use it?
  4. Which fighter did you play most, and why?
  5. When you lost, did you know why?
  6. Would you play it again?

Want to help even more? Every match is saved as a tiny replay file on your own computer (nothing is uploaded): %APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata\BLOCK BRAWLERS\playtests\ Zip that folder and send it with your feedback, and I can watch exactly how your matches went.

Thanks for playing!
