An update on this, the Discord server has been completely wiped, as in it still exists, but all the channels except the Welcome channel have been hidden or deleted. There have been no additional messages from the dev since the one I posted. I too would now guess it has, in fact, been abandoned sadly.

The dev responded on the 8th of May to a comment like this on Discord saying:

> [...] no, the project is not dead and will soon return with a major update. After such a long break, releasing something small and boring would be completely inappropriate. In about two weeks, I’ll share news and teasers of everything I’m currently finishing up.
