you're welcome.  options are either "Save & Continue" and "Save & Quit"

I forego & skip the sidequest to get both the coal and diamond AND since I'm playing the game in the BGB emulator on my PC, I save & reload the game using only "save states" until I reach and beat Ganon; that is when I start to use the Save and Quit option.  Only when I beat the game then I begin to get the coal and diamond items.

Do NOT use the "Save and Quit" option too much AND do NOT try to fill up the inventory with too many items (I mean do NOT buy the candle after beating the first two shrines as the candle item becomes useless after the 2nd shrine).  that's when things go haywire.

compasses are not "usable" in that normal or traditional sense

I forgot to mention last time that while in the overworld the SELECT button must be pressed instead of the START button to view the whole overworld map and move the arrow pointer to the area or areas where the completed or beaten shrines were located; if & when the compasses of the beaten shrines were collected and you press SELECT to view the OW map, the game will ask you if you want to warp to the location of the completed shrine; that is the only way compasses are "usable" - without them, you cannot "warp" to such areas on the overworld map

the compasses in Zelda's adventure can only be used outside of the shrines, not inside them so that's by design for this game.

yea well what operating system are you using since you did not mention that in the first place, which is also equally unhelpful

also try running VisualBoyAdvance-M from another computer or a different OS platform such as Windows or MacOS

I run the VBA-M app from a folder or path with a "short" name that doesn't contain spaces in between (never using folders with really long names or paths), on SEVERAL Windows based computers and they all work correctly, including game saving & loading.

I use VisualBoyAdvance-M v2.1.9 emulator (with an "M" at the end of VisualBoyAdvance) on my Windows 10 computer and the save file loads and saves properly.

brand new major version of GB Studio released in late June 2024 - {version 4.0.0}.  john will have to make a backup copy of his Zelda's Adventure GB project before attempting to "migrate" it onto the 4.0x version of GB studio as this major version has a lot of changes and a lot of bug fixes.

so far, "soon" is not soon enough as there has been no word since that trailer came out about 3 months ago.  so things have stalled since then

you have to wait longer for the dev to release episode blue; currently it's not ready yet

how are you playing this game?  thru a web browser, a game boy emulator program or on a real gameboy hardware?  I am not experiencing that problem you are having

I just wanted to drop by and say that a new version of the GB Studio creation software was released a few weeks ago near the end of January 2024 (it's version 3.2.0).  hopefully when John reads my recent comment, he'll try to make a new version of Zelda's Adventure game with the newest version of GB Studio that would fix or solve some of these random crashing problems, though this may a take a while.

the game can be played directly from any modern web browser like Mozilla Firefox, Google chrome, safari & Microsoft edge. downloading the game is optional.

version 3.1.1 does not exist as a "stable" release as it was a dev build

you have to wait until a new version is released that will include MM5 & MM6.  as the person earlier said before me, those games are not ready nor available yet and are still in production

they will make an mm5 & 6, eventually.  it's just that you have to wait a while until the creators are ready to release them and will make a new announcement for them.

do you have the latest firmware for both your Mega SG console and Mega Everdrive X5 cart?  update the firmware on both of them first

yup.  i get the same problem with gens on a windows pc.
on the other hand, the game plays fine with full music & sound in kega fusion

recently noticed a v1.1 release came out.  I wonder what was changed between the original version and the 1.1 version.  a short changelog mentioned either here or in the Readme file would be nice
