In an earlier version of the game, it was possible to determine your characters size at the start of the game. Is it still possible?

I thought the same, but it turns out, you have to wait until the circle reaches the key you need to press and the key turns white. Then press it. But be aware that there is one quick time event (I won't spoiler which) that requires you to not press the key to progress.
