Yo, I didn't know you took part in the jam, Failboat! Thats kinda cool, both for you and your team! The art on this game is awesome, I'm a huge fan of the style! I will say, I found it hard to hit the boss, maybe widening his hitbox, or adding a bit more control over the aim could help with that? Also, the explosion effects when the boss did appear often obscured my balls and made me lose them since I couldn't track where they were going to be. Other than that, a really cool idea executed really well!
(Also, if I had a nickel for every game I played this jam that had really nice artwork and that you had to fight a giant rat boss, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but its weird that its happened twice)
Holy cow this is so funny. And fun! I panicked and bailed when my family returned to the house and didn't want to look (and sound) like a lunatic, so I didn't see my score, but the idea is really good, and this is a perfect game to have multiplayer. Also the visuals were so cute and kind of perfect for this game.
This is such a clever idea! It really broke my brain though. I couldn't get very far, but I think that is more of the fact that this kind of thing (keeping track of so many things) is just in general not one of my strengths. But I think its does a great job at being the kind of game that it is, and its really well polished to boot!
Thanks! Yeah I've been getting mixed thoughts on the difficulty. There's an easy timing mode in the settings if you haven't tried that out and want to. (I'm thinking I probably should have made that the default lol). I would have loved to add a background track, but unfortunately my compositional talents are nonexistent lol.
Cool platformer, and a successful dash is very satisfying! I kind of found the movement a little too floaty myself, a=to the point where it felt a bit sluggish, which I don't think you really want in an escape the lava type game. But overall it was quite fun! (I also managed to clip myself into a block once and get stuck, which was kinda funny)
Thats too bad, I'm sorry to hear that. There is an easy mode in the settings with a much wider timing window if you want to try that out? You can also try manually adjusting the offset as well. But yeah, it seems like people have a varying amount of success with the timing. Thanks for taking the time to play it though!
This is really, really clever! I played it like 5 times just for fun! I love how the availability of information you get is determined by your minesweeping skill, which was really cool! I was always able to figure it out, by being economical with my tile choices, but I can see how people who haven't played as much minesweeper could get stuck without all the info. I think a cool addition would be different difficulty modes that give you different number of tiles to use, so that people with more/less minesweeping skill can have a good challenge
Man, this was fun! I'm a sucker for roguelikes, so this hooked me real quick! Like everyone else here, I thought the slam mechanic was awesome! The only thing that was a bit weird for me at least was I wasn't sure which things I could kill and couldn't kill for a while, and also it was slightly unclear when you were allowed to slam again. Outside of those very minor things, I had a blast!
Thanks so much for the thoughtful critique! Especially after how much effort you put into your game :). I agree with your note on the tutorial - I probably should have had some friends look at it to see if it was doing its job right. Thanks for the compliments on the art! What you saw was about the extent of my art skills in terms of detail/complexity, so I'm glad it turned out looking good at all. Thanks again, and I look forward to seeing Hickory in the winners!
Really good submission! The parrying felt great, and the art was really good, both the title screen and the pixel art! The one thing that didn't work as well for me was the ninja that shoots a laser beam, it was really hard for me to time that correctly. Maybe like an audio cue in addition to the timer would help? But even with that one quibble, really good job!
Really clever little puzzle platformer! I love the different ghost sprites, as well. The level design is quite good, too. I think if you wanted to go back later and add something to improve it, something like a pickup or something that increases your number again would really open up a lot of opportunities, but I get that that was out of scope for this jam. Good job!
