Done.

I now have a real VIC-20 machine. It is very tired (electronically speaking) and the video output is rough. It's apparently very common on VICs. So, I will be adding a totally monochrome version of the game in the disk image file. I've already tested it and it's MUCH much clearer this way. Uploading very soon.

Thank you for your help with using your amazing BBS this evening! You're a star!

I only have BBS access via my C64 at present. But that will change soon! :-)

I'd be absolutely flattered!!!! I'd love to visit too. :-)

CAPS on

I have saved disc image in alternative format "sst.dsk". Let me know how you get on.

I will investigate creating different disc image formats.

Try WinApe. I'm not familiar with other emulators. However, within those emulators you mentioned, is there an option to "load disc" from the menus?

FINALLY, I've named the disc image file so that it doesn't appear as an un-named disc with disc managers, such as MMB Manager etc.

Just corrected a bug with the Direction/Distance calculator within "com". Thank you Fern for finding this.

Thank you! Yes, indeed you could.

Sorry, it actually works GREAT on the Electron!!! Only VERY minor issue is the instructions (MODE 7) don't display correctly, but that's being picky!

This game is beautifully programmed. Very clever sprite plotting routines. Would you consider making a version for the Electron? I have a real Elk, but not a BBC Micro, so I'm resorting to BeebEm. Great work Stephen. :-)

This is such a clever and inspired concept! Love the immense retro vibes I'm getting with this! And every good game needs a page for "meat prices"...

Haha indeed! I was aware of "attack with healing" but was surprised by how much the Dragon took it out of me! And yes, I will map it on graph paper next time too; as God intended.

Thank you! Also it'd be great to change the Hero's name. I really love this game!

My first proper go at this lovely game! I got pretty close, I think! I attacked the dragon too soon tho!

Beautifully crafted game. Really neat UI and layout. A "secret" hotkey for changing to green colour scheme would be the icing on the cake. Keep up your amazing work FewBit. :-)

Thank you!! GREAT to hear from you again, from a long while ago in Tweetville! Hope you're doing alright. :-)

Thank you! I will take a look :-)

I know the Electron very well. I understand that on MOST setups with a TV, even those fed with SCART video, the top line of text is partly chopped off. Therefore, I have disabled the top row via a special command; so even with a scrolling text based game like this, you will never have partly visible text at the very top of the screen. You're welcome!

I have re-written numerous nested loops (which were the failure points on this conversion) so it should be much more stable. More testing required.

This is a very early conversion and I have some work to do with squashing various bugs. Thank you "The British IBM" for beta testing for me.

Most screenshots are from previous version. There are slight improvements with latest update (v2.7).

Updated C64 and PET versions using my new radical rethink and MUCH faster SRS display routine. I've also added a new command, SLS, which brings up the Short AND Long Range Scanner at once; VERY useful!

I'll re-work the VIC-20 version in due course.

PET version updated to v2.1 :-)

Temp. removed the colour schemes. I've just uploaded v2.1 for C64 which has an 80 column style SRS and summary data display. I will update PET version in due course.

Corrected, with a few other tweaks along the way too.

I'm aware of a formatting issue when the Short Range Scanner is damaged by a Klingon attack and the subsequent damage report is displayed. It is very minor (but still annoying!); I will correct this very soon.

Fab!

Very juicy update!

Thank you for the update! :-)

This look very interesting indeed! Absolutely love the retro-future aesthetic.

Done! As per your suggestion.

Done. Increased TORpedo targeting and NAVigation decimal places to 3. Thank you for your input.

Thank you for your kind words. I have pondered this before but didn't make a change. I think I'll take onboard your suggestion for the next updates. I'll note it in my "to-do" right now. 👍

...and yes, written in BASIC.

Thank you. C64 version is here

I've temporarily taken down the CBM PET version whilst I work on that to bring it inline with C64 version.  I will also post my Vic20 version as soon as I can automate the integration of the software 40 column mode, currently a bit cumbersome to run.

This is wonderful. Incredible combination of the text game and graphics. I'm a huge fan of the terminal based game; so much so that I have converted+enhanced the original 80 column printer terminal source code to work on 40 column 8 bit micros (C64, PET and even the Vic20 using a 40 column software utility).

You've done a fantastic job. :-)
