Hey David, I've got a question about your cool animal sprites and like to talk in private.

If possible for you, get in contact with me:

Bluesky: bsky.app/profile/eastpixel.de
Mastodon: oldbytes.space/@chris

If you don't have accounts there, just reply here. :)

Thanks, Chris

It definitely will. Its replay factor is huge. 🤩

What an awesome game!

From the screenshots and the video, it looks at first glance like a variation of Pac-Man, but nothing could be further from the truth... the level design, the enemies, the music, the graphics - everything is incredibly creative. We're currently playing it in multiplayer (yes, that's an option too), and it's a blast!

Thank you for your work! Love it really.

Hey, thanks for you question. It was a sad year unfortunately and therefore the updates stopped. I'll try to get back on the boat the next time.

Please see the FAQ above. The part to get your game running with GBCbag is really easy. Download it, put your game into the stated folder and ready.

Please note that I can't give a tutorial how to setup a Steam project. It's complex and there are many great tutorials out there. Steam/Valve itself got a great tutorial section.

Hey ya. What exactly do you need help with? Just using it with your game or compiling it?

Hey ya, thanks for the info. An early stage is no big deal, the idea and concept is more important and therefore it got me. :-)

Found the project on Kickstarter for its upcoming listing and will give the demo a try this week. :)

Hi Joan, thanks for your question. Not yet at this time, sorry. Try to publish something on the future.

This will be one of the modern NES games people will talk about for years! Take all your time, you're doing so great, man!

It's always a bit tricky with Apple. I needed to remove the ready to use version. It made trouble running on different systems because the binary wasn't signed by Apple (or a developer account by Apple maybe). But for the price per year I won't sign up for one. That was the point an Apple version got removed.

Under Linux (Desktop, Steam Deck etc.) the Windows version is running well so there's no problem. :)

Cannot test it but if you compiling it on an Intel Mac should make it work.

I came for the randomness and stay for the fluent features and replayability. The cutscenes are great, the different heroes with different abilities are also. It's a well done "rogue"-like on the NES. Thanks for it.

It would be amazing if someone would achieve this. :)

Great news! Thanks for your work and a good start into the new year tomorrow. :-)

This game looks so amazing and I like to test it out on Christmas eve on the original NES to make the day feels like the early 90s. A dungeon crawler wasn't on the list for this year. Thanks for making it! 😍

Update: waiting for the demo in 2026 :-)

A great example of a simple idea. Like it.

Oh yeah, what a cool news, right before the weekend. :-)

An update, how nice. Slow Mole Jr. is one of my favourite homebrew games on NES! And now you've made a Pico8 version I will definitly check them out really soon. Feels like a good platform for the game.

Thanks, will watch out for the Bluesky settings and check Insta. :-)

I found out there's no email available here. If you have find me on Bluesky (prefered way) or Instagram via :-) https://www.eastpixel.de/en/contact/

Hey Mike, yes, it's possible. Please check out the FAQ question #2 to learn how to do it yourself.
Otherwise come around on our Discord and get in contact with me, I can compile you an individual version to match your game.

Thanks for your feedback. Just watch out for updates/possible changes in the future.

🔥🤘🏻

That's cool somehow ... not in a strange format that only loads on some random 80s hardware but in a webbrowser, one of the top notch "platforms" (yes) today,  measured by the possibilities it offer (can do anything from show simple text up to complex games or software). And second: Yay \o/ it's a zine! It was fun to read, transported some personal stories. Confirmed: nice. :o)

Oh man, this one is amazing! It plays nice, looks nice and sounds nice. Great that the music got finalized finally.

You should always be able move your mouse to top of the screen to get the menu bar. If you set the tool to start in fullscreen you can also use and communicate F12 to switch between fullscreen and window. :-)

NESbag should not be an alternative to a full emulator therefore I didn't implemented a savegame or rewind function.

A save/load ability will never be part of it because a NES game should work exactly how it work. External saves are cheating. ;-)

Like to keep simple, for what it is.

Hey, glad it works! Thanks for share. :-)

I never thought that this cool piece would keep me busy for so long. <3

I came because of the trailer music and stayed because of the game. It is precisely this one, easy-to-understand mechanic that makes the game stand out from the crowd of “normal” platformers as a puzzle platformer. I mostly play on the go and really like it.

Hey, thanks you like it! :-)
Yes, there are reference games on Steam right now. As the tool NESbag 2 and GBCbag 2 technically the same, I share you to two games that got an update on Steam the last days:

• My own game "Anna: The Magic of Words" for NES (Windows + macOS version): https://store.steampowered.com/app/2963990
• Flea by Lowtek Games: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1346330

On our discord is a developer around who is testing his GameBoy Color game with GBCbag right now. Because the public release of GBCbag was only a few days ago, his Steam game isn't up to date yet, but will follow. :-)

About the Windows version: The developer at Lowtek Games and also another dev confirmed, that NESbag 2 and GBCbag 2 are fully compatible with the Steam Deck.

Compile for Linux works well too. As there are to many different Distributions and possible application variants to share it, I didn't pre-compiled it right now.

The macOS version uploaded to Steam also works well. A standalone shared version for macOS needs an Apple Developer Account to sign the .app package, funny enough this process isn't needed for share a game via Steam directly (I assume Valve is handle it somehow).

Thanks for testing and your kind reply! ☺️ Great that it's working for you.

We've talked about this yesterday on Discord and will definitely give it a try. Have never worked with HDPacks and will check out how them work.

Hey :-) Great that it's working for you.
To start in fullscreen on start, please add a "/fullscreen" to your starting parameter.
For example:  ./NESbag2 /fullscreen

Please let me know if it's working and how it's running on Steamdeck, to learn about the compatibility. :-)

The "ExclusiveFullscreen" is needed for another functionality.

Thank you, that it's helpful for you and thanks for using. 😍

Thanks for saying that again.

I struggled a bit over the last 2,5 years while coding but to see how you were able to improve you skill in the first level over half an hour was eye opening that everything is on a good way. Some fine-tuning after finish all worlds will be follow anyway. 😃☕

Thanks mate! It was a cool experience today with you and your community. I'm pleased that the game was well received in its current form (demo 0.1.4). Keep working motivated. :-)

Well done! It makes fun. Like the colours.

Whoohoo, thanks for this great news!
