Uh, look, I enjoy your work and I want to believe that this new version will be good, but it feels ridiculous to call this a "rework, not a remake". The setting is RADICALLY different. The basic bullet points of the plot are the same in that the MC is there for the same reason and comes in on a train, he's attacked by the monster, wakes up in Morgana's place and spies on the council before being lied to about the artifact and getting Pixie, but the events are pretty different. Emma is in a completely different role, Jessica is a running a different business. Not to mention many of the character designs have been significantly changed. Most jarringly, the world is so much more overtly magical, too, whereas initially before the magic part of the world seemed hidden from daily life. I'll be honest, a lot of remakes change less than this. This is definitely not just a code refactor.
And so far the new version is... not selling me. I definitely buy that it's less hacked together, the UI is nice and all, but I overall preferred the original. Some of that is very subjective- I loved Pixie's old design and I'm lukewarm on the new one- but some of the story stuff seems kind of cut together between both versions. Particular in how known the numen are. Morgana says humans have one eye closed, but how are people getting into town if you need the fish girl to pull you there from the train? She's clearly magical. The MC seems shocked that numen are real when he sees the council, but then talks about how he thought the tales of numen magic were "propaganda" against the numen, which would imply that the government openly acknowledges their existence- which they DO, because they were directly talked about by the person who asks for your ID. Even in the same conversation, we have an NPC saying they thought numen were a myth right next to talking about a politician directly addressing numen relations in a campaign speech. It just seems wildly mismatched.
Like I said, I like your work, and I hope that I'll enjoy the new version of Corrupted Kingdoms, but it genuinely seems like an outright different game, and so far, one that I don't like nearly as much as the original.
