Hello there!
Thanks for the detailed feedback :)

Yes, we have had our fair share of feedback on the Reserve and if we'd had more time and playtest would have worked something else out. We tested things like "Every 1 or 6 is a point for your reserve" but that made it overflow and didn't feel great... Perhaps for a 1.1 we will work something else out? The Problem with spending successes on it is, that you trade in one sucess for 1/2 successes and especially we wanted to have it not too much of an mathematical hussle to be like. But the Reserve is working a tad better on paper than in reality.

The idea behind the secondary Objectives is, that they have a significant result for the story and the objectives, some will delete a goals armor (hard 1 or 2 i.e.) and thus make it much more achievable, some will be a trap and thus a great story revelation (look at the three piglets), which did work actually great in the playtests and brought a lot of laughter! I guess, you need a certain perspective for the game to work, if you just want to rush, an story-centred ruleset might jsut not be the thing - but yes, I get your fear for that :)

Again, thanks for your feedback and perhaps  GSU will land on your table somewhere in the future too :)

Cheers
Marvin

Just gonna leave that here: While this game may be incomplete, the Hook is so cool. This whole paragraph below is just so well written and so cool to use as a Hook to get your friends to play that Campaign with you! Nicely done on that front ;-)

3 years ago scientists detected an artificial object hurtling toward the earth from outside the solar system. 3 months ago it crashed into Washington D.C., Bugs spilling forth. 3 weeks ago North America was conquered. 3 days ago Earth forces revealed prototype power armour that could turn the tide of the war. 3 hours ago Earth forces invaded North America in a last ditch effort to eject the Bugs from the US. 3 minutes ago you reached the beaches of Florida. 3 seconds ago you died. But then you woke up. And you are back on that landing craft approaching Florida. You are a Repeater, returning to fight the same battle again and again and again. And maybe, just maybe, you can get to Washington DC and liberate the US.

The jam starts on the 1st of March and runs for a month. During that time, you'll make your very own Havoc Engine game. (That's the hope, anyway.) It doesn't have to be about antifascist vampires - it doesn't even have to be especially action-packed. We reckon you can strongarm the dice mechanics into doing some pretty interesting things, and we'd love to see what you can come up with.

FAQCan I start before the jam begins?

Sure, whatever. I can't stop you. Doesn't feel sporting though, does it, so I'd keep quiet about the whole affair if I were you

Quote end.

Yes. Yes there are.

Thank you! I think having these little self-contained stories makes it a much easier "Pick up and Play" ruleset one can literally use with just a few minutes of reading on a convention, that was (on of our) goal(s), so nice to hear, that this aspect get's some praise ;-)

By the way we absolutely loved your name for your submission! Great job there ;-)

Cheers

Hush! I wanted to be seen as the genius behind the carnivorous frogs! ;-)

Hey there!
Marvin here, one of the three creators.

Thanks alot for your friendly and very detailed thoughts! Some of them we definetly agree with and I think you nailed some things on the first sight, great spot. We worked and tested some alternative ways to fill the reserves (on rolled 1s, on rolled 6s i.e.), but none felt great to play and often ended up overflowing the reserve. With more time and playtests we would have probably found a better implementation, but for now the problem stands, especially with big player numbers; it's less of a problem with 3-4 players (hence the remark at the beginnign of the rulebook). Perhaps something for a 1.1?

While GSU was designed to be an pick up and play ruleset, we tried to mimic the crunch with Challange Characteristics (great to hear, that you like them so much! They just were adding and adding once we started making scenarios). That's part of the reason, why the game is so much about the player agency and doesn't have a real loose-condition. If you want to feel like a badass - you will!

Once again thanks for your feedback, it is greatly appreciated and I am happy that you like the game! Perhaps it (or parts of it) will find the way onto your table some time :)

Much love from Germany
Marvin

Just wanted to add, that it is so cool, that you have this guideline! Just merely missing a deadline can feel soul-crushing, I can speak of experience, so big Kudos!
