I like how far this 4 day project has come, some improvements in gameplay with balancing difficulty, phenomenal artwork, cool sound effects, sick retro-style music, and solid functionality. The game is still frustrating for me personally, I'm just not fast enough going through the menus and checking on resistances and checking the radar at the same time. Just not for me, the game is still pretty good for what it is.
Nice and simple, yet, there is a little bit of hidden complexity to the movement when your battery gets low, very smart. Simple style, but still fit a techy theme so it works. There wasn't any music or sound for me, not sure if there is any at all. I like that you have a diegetic UI for your bug's battery charge and you can see it drain, that's really cool and executed really well.
This was a pretty decent game, I played before I read any instructions then I read them later, just because I fancy some good ol' conveyors. Took me a minute of just messing around until I realized what I had to do. I liked that you can use as many of the cleansers and speed boosts as you like, it really made my system feel like peak efficiency.
This game has some conflicting design choices that get in the way of an enjoyable gameplay experience. I get the use of menus if player actions and the opponent were meant to be complex, but I would recommend keeping this turn based and having a limited amount of turns for the player. These menus are a barrier for the real-time playstyle, eating up time when you only have about less than a minute to attempt to win. There were times where I had the chance to spam slash and beat it even when blinded, and then times where I had to think about what to do next. The artificial difficulty instilled into the basic mechanics was a bit of a pain.
I had absolutely no idea how to do anything or what anything meant for the first minute or so, it just was off-putting. Your first impression is an important part of the game.
The art and music was amazing, I had to lose a couple of times to take it all in. Themes all fit together and the music had a similar sound to retro games which was pretty cool.
Overall, the fundamentals of the gameplay are flawed, turn-based mechanics put into a real-time game just wasn't meant to be. Every button, action, and game state worked fine, so development was well done. The music made the game feel fun and engaging and the pixel art was great.
This isn't a review to beat anyone down and I know it was a little harsh, I just feel passionate about indie games and want to see people improve the experiences they create with their games.
This game is so much fun! The tutorial feels great and doesn't require you to return to the main menu which is fantastic, It just launches you right into the story, perfection. This game is going in the right direction and I love how the controls look like a human body in a way, it helped me figure out how to control the right foot on a different keyboard.
Feedback: There needs to be portal sounds, that's it.
