I have no idea what I am doing.
I have no idea how to design a game.
I have no idea how to market it or where to put it.
I don't know how to build a community.
What I do know is...this all started by being...I guess kind of disillusioned to the current market and trading card games. I'm not necessarily saying that I think games are bad or unapproachable. But games like Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic the Gathering have just changed so much over time that I just don't really have the same interest in them that I used to.
Other games like Pokemon and One Piece (And even YGO & Magic) are hard to find packs or boxes for in my area. I honestly didn't even know One Piece had a card game until over a year after it came out, partially because of availability, and it looks fun! But I like being able to pick a pack up in person rather than ordering something online. I'm not sure why.
I'm rambling.
I have this dumb idea. It started with all the things I just listed. I could point out more, but I want to move on. I just wanna get the cards and throw something together and play with some friends before everyone shows up for d&d. If I get things online I always have this nagging thought that I might as well just get singles and try and build something "good." Perhaps I am blowing this all out of proportion to justify the amount of work I've put in this already...I digress.
So all of that said. Here is my dumb idea.
I want a card game that anyone can play. I thought about how to do that, and how to make it more accessible. What I came up with was just...let everyone print their own cards.
Anyone can go out grab a pack of playing cards and throw them in a sleeve and make a proxy card. Or if you have old Pokemon or Magic cards, same thing. What if that's what it's built around or how it's distributed? Most printers can fit 9 cards to a page, so if you already know what you're doing, you can just print out exactly what you need to save as much ink as possible. The game itself is very straightforward in it's rules and as it goes on a lot of the complexity will come from how cards or specific archetypes interact with those rules. You can print the cards you want. Cut them out and just go.
So that's the idea. That's the philosophy.
So let's see where this takes us.
