Hi. Been following this game for a while now. While its still in pre-alpha thought, we can already see where the game is moving with its updates. I think the mood from previous updates and current one is really different. While this might be just a test, a temporaty thing, its exactly why we should tell our opinions about the game imo, while the game is still cooking.
A few opinions and things I've notices about current state of the game, please tell yours.
The boss fights- Is this an RPG now? We don't even have a proper combat (which is not an issue in itself). If this was an option that we could enable/disable bosses- sure, it might be really fun. Just like we have funny option, or have to spawn Maxwell from terminal and such.
Some of the spooks/ events imo take out the mysteriousness out of the game. The ones where you see the scary thing itself. Then again they can be fun in their own way.
Unfortunately it also involves our invisible "neighbours". We can interract with them so often. Yet this game is implying that there's something in the wast sky... We have the aliens right here already. They are cute though.
Sure you can simply ignore them for the "mysteriousness" factor. Which is not reasonable in such game- it invites you to run around the map fixing the satellite servers and getting their hash codes.
Also- is this becoming chores simulator? All the window clearning, picking up tons of mountains trash- is this even realistic? I do think that cleaning the base is enjoyable (to some extent). In the same time someone did live there before. Now it looks like it was base of thugs. This job would be given to someone with higher education- not everybody would be allowed to mess with such expensive radio telescopes, right? You would think that they would leave the base at least somewhat in a better shape?
I'm not mentioning bugs and such things- its not the purpose of this rant. Plus its in pre-alpha.
What I love about this game is sitting in a dark room alone, searching for signals at night and looking at the wast sky. Having that huge window looking into the darkness. Waiting for signal to process to hear some kind of noise. Perhaps in hopes to hear something, maybe something living?.. The mornings that come together with this calming yet mysterious background music are amazing. Some of the events like shooting stars makes it so ridiculously amazing to the point where I wished I would be in there. There's something comforting about that signal searching base in the middle of nowhere.
So far I've not found any other game to replicate this feeling, and am curious on how votv will do. That said past bigger updates imo are going slightly away from this eerie mysterious mood. The game is still enjoyable, but its a bit unnerving seeing where its going.
