Hi, thanks for the reports! I'll be redoing chapter 1 entirely but I'll still fix these... as soon as I can figure out what's wrong with the first screenshot. The rest will get fixed later today!

Hi Zack!
LOL thank you for advertising the game! I am always so happy to hear just how much you enjoy it and the characters! I'm sorry the update is uncomplete, but I do promise 100% that it isn't paused or dropped. Even so, I hope you will enjoy the new bad ends; I'm not sure what you'll think about the cellar bad ends, but I'm sure you'll tell me 🤣
Being cheered on is more than enough help, thank you! 🥰
There was many times these last few months that I considered overhauling it, but I was stubborn and made it even more difficult than it needed to be. I need to remember that I am a single developer and as such I have limitations. I've learned it now, and I will adjust accordingly as I encounter struggles with creating this game so I don't need to do this again! ^^
Hi again, Zack! It is no trouble at all to wait for your questions, as I'm just happy to get them at all so please take your time. It's always a pleasure to see that someone is enjoying the game, the world or the characters. If you want to ask the characters anything again, I have set up a new thread. 😊 Haha, sorry about the length of my last answer, I just thought it would be fun for the characters to answer and that took longer than I expected it to. (Sorry the Captain called you a pervert, I believe you when you say you're not, but she's cynical 😅)
Because of a small, not too graphic scene in a Frodi specific bad end that happens if he likes you enough (affection and lust), I will soon need to bump up the game's age rating to adult. Honestly, that guy... Anyway, due to this, I do not mind if you post NSFW questions although I would ask you to wait until the update when there's hopefully no chance of minors seeing it. Although I may shut down a NSFW question for Frodi if I can't find a way to answer it without him escalating it, as I don't want to be the middle person as Frodi and players sext each other! But I will try to answer anything that's not plot related or spoilers for the character routes.
Hello again, Zack! No problem, thank you as always for your interest in the game! I'm always so flattered! Maybe I should just pick BlueSky over Tumblr already so I can get all your questions directly, haha. I'll sort it out sometime this month.
Forgive the text block, I'm just trying to answer your points.
I possibly chose my words poorly in my last reply, but Thurin's love is now familial but it grew from platonic love. It was never romantic in any fashion, more like a best friend he never knew he wanted and that feeling grew overprotective in nature and evolved into the familial kind of love that he wished he had and is determined to give to you. He's still infatuated with you but now it's as a father who wants his child to overachieve and get everything they ever want. He really does want you to thrive, and it makes him happy to see you successful. Sharla however is very conflicted with you. Up until the moment you joined, she was an only sprout and now she has a sibling she never wanted lol
Anyway, I will update the main characters to have biographies in the People of Interest page in the codex, but that won't be for this update or I for sure won't make my deadline. The difficulty will be in making the biographies without revealing plot spoilers.
Magic in this world is more subtle than in other fantasy. Witches are the connection between the spirits and the living and are born as such. I based the magic on traditional English magic from ye olden times, where witches apparently formed packs with spirits with rituals to make enchantments and curses and whatnot. So in this world, the spirit gives the energy and the witch forms it. It is rare to find spirits with enough strength to grant big instant spells (think D&D fireball). So you will see Vaine performing witchcraft on his route on occasion, but it won't be high magic like you see in other fantasy worlds. He would secretly love to do that though.
Witches are more sensitive to the spirits than other people, so they are most at risk of being possessed, which is why many witches such as Frodi and Sharla don't like to interact with spirits or have anything to do with magic. Vaine is unusual in that he isn't afraid of spirits, but that's because he was raised to understand them better than people when he grew up in the cult, which is rare for witches as it is a random chance, rather than a genetic trait passed down.
Alfars or other creatures with a natural inborn magic can make big, instant spells like a fireball, but it requires a lot of energy. Of the alfar, Ljosalfar are better than Dokkalfar at magic and Svartal have the least skill in magic, so Moloch is actually quite a skilled spellcaster compared to Tananthia, who only really uses her magic to strengthen herself as she's more of a soldier, and Thurin is quite useless.
To learn more about spirits and magic, I have included several pages in the codex! Maybe I need to rewrite them to make it clearer, however.
Alright, onto your questions! I could answer them, but I think it would be more fun for the characters to do it. Captain, gather the Thorns!
Tananthia: Right, this pervert wants to know who's a virgin. Answer!
Frodi: (gestures to his body) Darlin', look at me, how could I be a virgin when I look like this~?
Kelka: Yeah, Frodi's a total whore and has lots of lovers. It's funny that they say they love your confidence rather than your looks. They always say your brother is better looking.
Frodi: (strained smile 💢) Who says that? Maybe they need a reminding why I'm the best choice.
Kelka: Hehe, not telling~ I'm not one either, by the way! But that relationship is long over, it didn't end well...
Frodi: Yeah, because you-
Kelka: SHUT YOUR FILTHY MOUTH. (sweetly) Mc, it doesn't matter any more, that person changed and it wasn't for the best. But you're wonderful and I'll cherish you forever and ever if you'd let me~ ❤️
Magwyn: (sad) No, but's it's complicated and I don't like talking about it.
Vaine: (scrunches his face at the memory) I'd honestly prefer if I were. Sex is disgusting. Why'd I try it twice? Why do people make those weird expressions? And why so much sweat? (shudders)
Tananthia: Is anyone in the building a virgin?
(Thurin walks by and everyone stares)
Thurin: ...What are you looking at me for? What's going on?
Tananthia: (Judgemental smirk 😏) ...Hm, yes, I expected that.
Thurin: Expected what? What's going on?? I don't like being left out, it makes me feel lonely!😭
Tananthia: Hobbies, what do you like to do?
Magwyn: (happy) I play the violin! The Captain got me one as a birthd-
Tananthia: EXCEPT THAT. NEVER MENTION IT AGAIN.
Magwyn: Oh, um, I guess I'm kind of boring... I like to spend time with my friend, Byrn, outside of the Blackthorns, and learning new combat styles. Bryn and I spar a lot and then go watch blacksmiths make weapons and armour. I enjoy baking but I burn everything I make. One day I'll make something without turning it into charcoal! Oh, and the Captain gives me information about-
Tananthia: No spoilers! Next person, go!
Kelka: I like collecting stuff! Especially- (Tananthia glares) ...But I can't go into spoiler territory, so that's all I'll say about that... Uh, what else?? I like breaking into houses to see inside! I don't take anything, I just like looking around and try to guess what the person is like.
Frodi: Sometimes they eat things from the pantries.
Kelka: Not often!! Oooo, what else... I like following you and watching you sleep I hang around with Maggie to listen to her playing, I really like her music! Finally, I hang out in the city in the busiest parts to people watch or make new friends. I miss my clan a lot, so I like looking for other devic in particular. Beyond that, most of the time I hang out with Frodi when he goes out to play. He takes me to taverns with music so we go dancing a lot. It sucks when he leaves me to go stay over someone's house, but I'm used to it now. I don't like walking home alone afterwards though, so Maggie often comes to find me if she knows I've been out.
Frodi: Oh. I didn't know you felt that way. I'll try to stop doing that so much when we're together. Anyway, it should be obvious, but I'm invited to all the parties. And why wouldn't I be? I go to the gambling clubs too. Anywhere people gather, I can find something fun to do. I used to drink a lot, and I guess I still do when I get a chance. It's kinda thrilling to let loose, you know? I like singing, but I prefer to dance. Hm, sex is also fun. Generally, my rule is the more the merrier~ I'll let you choose how I apply that to my life~ As you can tell, I like group activities in general~ Lastly, when I'm hungover, I stay in bed and read. (everyone stares) What?
Tananthia: You have never purchased a book in all the years you've been here.
Frodi: I get Kel to unlock Vaine's door so I can take his. He has good taste in books.
Vaine: (quietly furious because he thought he'd somehow been losing them) I enjoy reading, but I might stop now I know where my books are going. I paint, although I'm not good at it. The Captain gave me a garden... (she glares but he ignores it) ...I grow plants to make incense. I'm sensitive to smells, so I make a lot. Oh, and I collect bones to form into sculptures. I go around the city to make friends with the spirits, but I only get along with the shades, fortunately there's a lot in Wyldern. Um, lastly, I'm a priest of Esca, so I even though I left the cult, I still worship him. It's not a hobby but just as important to me.
Tananthia: And the other thing. Or do I need to "retrain" you?
Vaine: (defensive) There is no other thing. (Captain takes a step closer and he shuffles his feet, not looking at anyone) ...I like eating sweet things. (feels the Captain getting angry) All right! I love sweets! They're my favourite thing, most of my wages are spent in confectionary shops around the city! Stop judging me!
Tananthia: Height and age? Easy, I can tell you that. From smallest to tallest: Kelka, then Frodi and Magwyn who are about the same height, Vaine, myself, Thurin, Moloch, and finally Sharla. Ages: Kelka: 26, Sharla: 28, Frodi: 29, Magwyn: 30, Vaine: 31, Thurin: 83, and Moloch is ancient, he's almost 300. Myself? That's none of your damn business.
Thurin: (shouts from afar) She's almost as old as Moloch! That's what you get for making fun of me earlier!
Tananthia: (seething with rage) You will regret that.
Tananthia: Jealously? Hmm, I have my suspicions I shall share with you. Now why am I telling you the answer and not asking the Thorns? They will deny it, but I know them well. Here you are. Make of it what you will, but do not mistake the 4th place as meaning that they aren't jealous.
| Friendship | Lusting Relationship | Loving Relationship | |
| 1st | Vaine | Kelka | Frodi |
| 2nd | Kelka | Magwyn | Kelka |
| 3rd | Magwyn | Vaine | Magwyn |
| 4th | Frodi | Frodi | Vaine |
Tananthia: Right, now you've each been given individual questions, so I'm leaving. I have work to do, Molly to bully and I must also punish Thurin at some point today.
Meanwhile:
Sharla: Papa, come hide in my office before the Captain finds you.
Thurin: Thank you, sprout, I love you and I will never love you any less now we have MC.
Elsewhere:
Moloch: ...I feel an ill omen coming my way.
Kelka: My tail? Do you like it? I wish I did... Devic tail lengths vary but are usually about as long as our body. My tail is considered stubby and ugly because it isn't as long as others. It's around 3 ft, when most are between 4 and 5. But if you like it then I'm sure I can too! (blushes) Hehe, MC likes my tail~ Maybe I'm not an ugly devic?? But can humans/gigants like devickind? I like MC, so maybe? Ehehe, I admitted I like MC! (squeal)
I can't really pull people down with it, but I can use my tail to unbalance someone or sweep their feet out from underneath! It's difficult though, so I don't do it much. I mostly use my tail to hold things, so it's like an extra hand! ...Hmm, it's not really that sensitive, I actually cut it a lot but don't really notice until Maggie chases me with a bandage. Thanks, Maggie, I love you! (goes to hug Magwyn) You want to play with my horns? (sad droop) Aww, I wish I could feel that... My-Are my ears sensitive-? (nervous excitement) Um, hehe, well, that's- yes? They're really ticklish but I won't mind if you want to touch them. You can touch me wherever you want, I think you're so cute with the most beautiful eyes and I want us to be so close, closer than anyone. It's special for devic to touch ears, I think humans call it being married, so please do and be mine.
Vaine: Hmm, I'm well acquainted with.(embarrassed) the confectionary store owners... Beyond that, I don't really know many people. I do meet others when I spend time with Marrow or perform my priestly duties, but I don't get close. So... no friends. Well, no living friends besides Marrow, that is. Marrow is wonderful, I hope you'll like her. We grew up in the cult and escaped together, so she's the person I trust most in the world. I tell her everything, even about you. I wish I could spend more time with her, but the Blackthorns take most of my time, so we write to one another instead, but I try to make time to see her at least twice a month, more if I can. As a witch, I do use magic. Magic is just very impractical in this world, although I wish it was as fantastical as in the stories I read - I think it would be interesting to be an ice mage. Unfortunately, that is not how it works. I often make amulets or charms and I'm an expert in runecraft. If you ever want to hex someone, I can do so for you. I can also forcibly gather spirits with rituals and make them cast spells that way against their will, but I dislike that method. Spirits are good to me, so I try to be good to them in return.
My mace? I suppose it's more a tactical choice rather than a preference. If you pick a blade, you need to be more precise and have some degree of finesse, especially if you're fighting against an armoured enemy. I don't need to worry about that with a mace, I can just crush my enemies. As long as I'm strong enough to wield it, that's enough to get the others to stop nagging me about training more. Do you like Aslaug? She has been with me since I was a child. Well, the original, living Aslaug was. The spirit that occupies the body now was also around then but came and went as they pleased. I was so upset when Aslaug died that my spirit friend entered the body and took her name, so I would never be alone. She is my source of joy these days. I would be isolated without her.
Aslaug: Master, you're ignoring something.
Vaine: (embarrassed) No, I'm not.
Aslaug: Hehe, master used to get many compliments about being pretty when he was younger. He had longer hair and looked like a girl! Being called handsome is new. Most people get creeped out because of his eyes and avoid him. He is a shy idiot, so be patient.
Vaine: I am not! Hmph! And I know I'm handsome, I just don't care. (Aslaug, am I really? What do I do when I'm called handsome? And is a slim waist important? I'm so confused. People are weird. I don't care about that, so why do they?)
Aslaug: (You should say thank you but you messed that up. The waist was also a compliment, but you got confused because your an idiot.)
Vaine: ... Thank you. Go away. (Did I do well, Aslaug?)
Aslaug: (No.)
Vaine: ((lovingly) - I hate you)
Aslaug: ((lovingly) - I hate you too)
Magwyn: Killing is... I don't like doing it, but I understand that I need to do it. It's strange, when I was a mercenary and then a gladiator, I didn't care as much. I guess it's because the situation is different. As a mercenary, I was not just paid to kill, but when I did it was because I could pick and choose my contracts, so I was able to stay within my own moral boundary. As a gladiator, it also wasn't so bad because we had signed up knowing we could die. It might have been more senseless, but we were willing to risk it. As a Thorn, it's different. I don't pick my contracts and I just have to hope that my actions will be for a greater good. The Captain actually helps me a lot with this, even though it annoys her. When she needs to kill, she gives me the most "evil" of them all, and tells me why they need to die. I really have no choice but to trust her and hope she's not lying to me. I try to do it quickly and painlessly regardless. Just because the person I'm killing might be cruel doesn't mean I need to be. What's the other question...? Why did I try to kill Frodi and Vaine- Oh. That.
(Vaine and Frodi glare)
Frodi: We would also like to know.
Kelka: (smug) She didn't try to kill me because I'm special and we're friends.
Magwyn: (ashamed) I'M SO SORRY!!!! It wasn't intentional. I was recruited in a very dark stage in my life and men scared me. They still do sometimes, even though I know I'm stronger than the average, untrained man! I was scared that Vaine or Frodi would be one of the men who could overpower me, so I panicked! I'm not so scared of them now though although I do still get nervous.
Vaine: (Should we be insulted?)
Frodi: (You know, I'm honestly not sure?)
Magwyn: Kelka was too new to train me, and Vaine is the most experienced, so I was assigned to him. He's grumpy but a patient mentor - and he surprisingly never took it personally that I tried to kill him with his own mace. No one really knew how hard I found it to be around Vaine and Frodi until I broke down and... you know... Thurin was considerate as well, sending Sharla to help me when I was in trouble. Thurin was always kind to me and understood that I needed space, so I never got a chance to attack him. I'm glad I didn't, I really like Thurin and he wouldn't have been able to defend himself well. And Sharla helps me too, she's a safe space for me when I'm feeling overwhelmed. I hope you'll be able to get along. It would be nice if we could all spend time together.
Frodi: Saving the best until last, I see~ Okay, let's see here... Did the Captain discover my true nature? ...Ahaha, what a question! What is there to discover?! (💢😊)
Tananthia: (poking her head back in the room and glares) I did. It's a useful trait if he can control it, so it pleased me. Although he misbehaves a lot, so perhaps I need to replace him...
Frodi: ...She maybe saw a little. (more glares) OKAY. She knows. She saw how it can be useful and didn't try to train it out of me. We came to an understanding. Next! ...Not abuse anyone for a year?? You make me sound like a monster! You know I can control myself, right? Why does everyone bully me? Next question! "Does bullying others give me a thrill?" What is up with these questions? Do you get a thrill? Because you're being so mean to me when I've been so good to you. 😭 I'm bored of these ques- Oooooh~ hehe, don't push me, I love a challenge too, you know. And what's that you said earlier? My weaknesses? I have no weakness, but try your best to beat me anyway, darlin', I enjoy some good powerplay~ But just so you know, there's worse things than stabbing or getting a whipping and if you're not careful, I'll show you just how bad I can be~ 😘 Well that was fun, but I think it's time to stop this.
Kelka: Hehe, you barely answered anything.
Frodi: Don't worry about it~😉
Kelka: I'll help you, MC! Because I like you so much and I'll do anything for you and this way maybe you'll dislike Frodi and pay more attention to me. Ahem! Frodi first pushed a boy down steep stairs when he was teeny-tiny, knowing it was dangerous and he was hoping for the worst to happen. He liked the boy but his crush liked Feane instead. I don't know what happened to him. Did he die?
Frodi: Pfft. I wish. Not enough stairs. 😒
Kelka: And final question... If you ever see Frodi at his worst, it's one of two things. Either he knows he'll never see you again and you're on the receiving end in which case you'll get the full experience, or you're like me and working with him and seeing just bits and pieces of it. I'm always on the latter side and know how to avoid the worst parts, so I don't mind so much, but Frodi's never had to worry about people avoiding him. The people who warns others about Frodi don't really him him, so others just think his reputation is exaggerated, especially when Frodi does try to make an effort to be nice. He'll continue to be nice unless you anger him in some way, but he's chill about a lot of things, so most people never see the worst side of him. I think that's everything now. Thank you for the questions, I've never been in love but I think I am with you I hope you have a good day!
Hi Zack!! Merry Christmas to you too! Thank you for Kelka, Jen already sent it to me a little while ago, but now everyone gets to see how pretty you made Kel! I just love that cute little blush you've given them and I giggled when I saw it even went to their ears~ Thank you~!! Also, I didn't mean to Vaine so hard to draw! I actually have difficulty with him sometimes as well, so I needed to adjust him a little. I'll update his art on the game page after the next update, but I'll post his body art (new normal clothes) below for now.
Feel free to open a new thread and ask any and all questions! I am happy to answer although I may not answer if I think it will spoil a plot point. Excuse the upcoming block of text. AHEM-!
I do plan on making a social media account for the game at some point, but I'm trying to decide between tumblr or Bluesky. I'm too lazy to look after both 😅 I'm leaning towards Bluesky because I don't know anyone on Tumblr, but I'm putting more thought into it.
I will risk some small spoilers to answer your other questions and observations: Thurin never had a family until Tananthia bought him from a slaver and freed him (don't think she was being nice, she always has a reason). Thurin, being a svartal, would never be claimed by his family so he stuck with Tanan because he had nothing and no one else. Racism towards the svartal kind is very severe, especially from other alfar. When Thurin was assigned a Stem, Sharla was only the second person who saw him as a person, so he learned the the Stem could be his family and he was happy for a long time. Because of his injuries and his first Stem being destroyed, Thurin was moved back to work with Tananthia but became depressed because he couldn't do the work he enjoyed most. When he was at his worst, he met the MC and saw them as a curiosity, and later came to platonically love from afar. I put a small part of this in the "Thurin sees the protagonist living their life after turning down his work offer." mini story included in the game, unlocked after finishing the prologue! 😊
Now Vaine and Frodi are a bit more complicated which you will learn in time if you pursue their routes. There isn't one reason, but lots all added together, some are plot reasons which I won't share, but I can tell you the other ones! In it's simplest form, they're jealous of each other mostly.
Vaine was raised in a witch cult that worshipped Esca, he ran away because he wanted to be a normal/average person. He failed. Badly. Yet he was able to survive with the help of his cousin Marrow (a side character to come), until recruitment. He wants to be a "people person" but doesn't know how because he was raised with spirits, mostly the barghests, who he befriended by making deals with them and also *spoiler*
Frodi was raised in a way that Vaine would consider to be "average", as Frodi wasn't raised to make living sacrifices to a death god, was able to grow up and make friends, go out and find a safe, boring job, and has a family that loves him. That Frodi has this or had these opportunities but didn't take advantage fills Vaine with resentment. Oh and it irritates Vaine that people would assume he would be "evil" but not necessarily Frodi on first sight, when Frodi is actually Evil with a capital E and doesn't really hide it.
He and Frodi were the first Thorns in this Stem and Vaine wanted to make friends, and they were. But Frodi has a nasty habit of screwing people over (not a spoiler as you'll see a very evil side to Frodi in one bad end in the next update if your affection and lust are high enough - Frodi hurts those he likes the most 😉). This hurt Vaine a lot as Frodi was his first and only living friend who wasn't Marrow. How Frodi screwed Vaine over is a secret for now. But Vaine now doesn't trust people, when he once wanted to try and he blames Frodi for it.
On Frodi's part, well, it's both just as complicated and less. The less part is that Frodi is a sadist in every sense of the word. Unlike everyone else in the Stem who has trauma (yes, even the Captain is the way she is because of it - can see in the short stories), Frodi has none. Zilch. Nada. He is just a pure sadistic narcissist who wants to hurt others or be the target of their adoration or obsession. Both feed his fragile ego.
The just as complicated part is that Frodi is jealous of Vaine's capability as a witch. Frodi is also a witch, but was not raised in a coven as Vaine was. He never learned how to interact with spirits in a way that wouldn't be dangerous to him. Frodi is very scared of the spirits and magic in general, although he'll try to hide it. That Vaine isn't scared is very humiliating to Frodi. That anyone could do or be something better than Frodi, even if it isn't something he wants to be good in, will infuriate Frodi to no end.
Frodi still actually likes Vaine a little (as I said, he enjoys hurting those he likes the most) and is just teasing Vaine to twist in the knife for his own enjoyment, knowing it reminds Vaine of when they were friends. While they aren't friends anymore, Frodi still sees Vaine as a toy.
Another thing that irks Frodi is how Vaine is very close with his cousin Marrow, yet Frodi, for all the love his mothers and brother give him, doesn't really feel much fondness for his own family. They're more an annoyance to him, an obligation who he can't seem to get rid of. He's jealous that Vaine has someone who will always back him up, but Frodi refuses to see that his own family would help him if he needed it. Another point for the family is that while Vaine sees Marrows strengths, he is not threatened by it and is reassured that together they can do anything. Whereas Frodi sees his elder brother as a threat, that Feane could be better looking, more well liked, stronger, faster, more successful in general. It gnaws at him everyday.
Everything else beyond that is a spoiler, but I hope it helps you understand them more!
You will see side character Feane (below) at some point near the end of chapter 1. Look forward to it, as Feane is like an upgraded and NICE Frodi *swoon*
(Don't ever say that to Frodi, btw, as he will be furious and react badly and you will get a bad end. Or Feane might...)
(psst-! Feane is a possible LI, I'm still figuring out how to make it work with a side character, but look at him-! Can't leave that man untouched! And he'll be the only non-yandere LI if I can figure this out!)
Phew, that was a lot! I hope it was interesting for you!

edit 1: corrected spelling
edit 2: fixed my incorrect "corrections" -_-''
edit 3: god bloody damn it, how do I screw up my own primary language so badly??? corrected typos
Sometimes I need a break from writing but I still want to work on the game in some way so I don't lose my motivation. Making game related art when I have no new portraits to draw is a good compromise!
I am currently trying to stay on track for a pre-Christmas update, so this is a bribe to beg for forgiveness if I miss it a little!
2025 Christmas celebratory picture (1 year anniversary)
Thank you! I still love my Kelka, it's saved to my laptop with my Gog/Thurin. I'm working on the update still, but I still have a lot to do. I've got a save for each companion now so I can't miss anything this time! ...I hope. But I would still greatly appreciate any reports, as it's a lot to do for just one person. So thanks in advance for anything else.
Also, the LIs won't hate you for being bossy unless you fail the check and have a low stat. In the stealth check that you did, if you have average or high stealth but fail, they won't be angry because that's just bad luck. And even if you do anger them, there's plenty of chances to gain or lose more affection or trust, so don't worry if you mess something up once in a while.
And because I want to prove that I'm working on part 2, here's a screenshot!

Hi, ZaCk! Thank you soooo so much for the error reports! They are now fixed and have been uploaded on both game pages. One day I will manage to release new content without any bugs... And thank you also for the kind words about the game that Wulfmune passed on to me! I'm so glad to see someone enjoying it, enough so that they're doing multiple playthroughs for chapter 1!
I really do try to make sure that there's no bugs but there's so many variations that I have to test, there will always be something that I forget to try. In this case, stat levels, companion choices and random outcomes change the events sometimes a lot and sometimes just a little. So I really do deeply appreciate any reports.
I see you tried to be bossy in a stealth check with low stealth. If you ever want to try the chapter again with different stats, you can select a new game and quickstart which will jump you to chapter 1. I hope you continue to have fun as I update the game!
Oh dear, I hate to say it but this wasn't fixed. I did test to see if I'd simply had outdated files by deleting everything including the file within the AppData/Roaming file, redownloaded and started a new save but its still the same issue.
It doesn't look like anything is different, besides the file locations but I'll post this again, just in case you notice something.

Hi! I downloaded this a few months ago and to my shame completely forgot about it. This was clearly my loss because wow, the effort went into this game is outstanding. All the different paths and variations, the choices actually matter in directing how the story plays out. Superb. Only completed three full route ending so far and the early assassin endings.
Unfortunately, one of the routes seems to be broken.
While running game code:

And while I'm here I may as well report some typos I found when playing the various routes. I didn't think to record what route they were on for you to narrow it down. My bad.
Altair: No idea, the master told me to searcg for solutions in books from other kingdoms... {search}
Narrative: You looked at the both of them. They used to cool winds and a sun that didn't scorch. {They are/They're}
Wallace: My Lord, she is a wanted fugitive from Requia! What if they attack us so thaht we'd hand her? {that we'd hand her over?}
Narrative: Sometimes you saw the King unable to walk straight in the mornings, but wouldn't dare asking him why. {ask}
Narrative: He was still a fearful mage and if he woke up, he'd probably burn this place whole. {I think this should have been fearsome?}
Samael: Lest not let them go anywhere near their food, right? {Let's}
Again, great work on making this game, I'll be keeping an eye on future works to play when I have spare time!
Hi, when I open the game it came up with this message:
Error [PassageDone]: <<AllClues>>: error within widget code (Error: <<if>>: bad conditional expression in <<if>> clause: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'Checked')).
I was still able to play the game, but thought you'd want to know about that. The game is very intriguing and the underlying occult horror kept me enrapt. I mean, I died at the end of chapter 6 but no regrets there as it seemed like a fitting end for my character.
Hey, sorry for the late reply! I was so busy at work and didn't have the energy to check the forums.
Most of the characters have trauma, but rogues are unique in that they all have something life changing happen in their lives. Granted, Ruwin's trauma and Mikaylis' is enough to make up for Beisel's cushy life, and Miyetta and Lor make up for Beileph's isolation, even the priests don't all have it so bad.
Rogues are definitely punished as a whole faction. Granted, Ashur takes it on the chin, but he's, uh... unique. In many ways, and I say that with affection.
Katnir is absolutely sentimental but he's also fairly easy for me to know how to react to him in the scenes. He has his guard up, and the worst thing to do is to try to bring it down. Let him come to you. It's a trick that works on animals, and Katnir was raised by them, so why not? Joking aside, he's fixated on his familial loss and wants something concrete, despite his knowledge that nothing lasts forever. It's a contradictory wish that you have to allow him to ruminate on. Don't offer promises, only chances, because he's too cynical/wise and knows that promises will get broken which will lead to disappointment. Chances are just that, you've given him the choice to take the plunge. His rogue traits make him want to take chances, even is his earth trait is warning him of all the ways it could go wrong. He is a character of great depth that I rarely see in VNs, and he's my favourite rogue for it!
ROGUE LIKERS UNITE 🤝
(I have to confess though, although rogues are my favourite faction on the whole, none of them are in my top 3 characters for the series...)
No problem at all, use whatever of my thoughts as you wish, and thank you for being an unwitting buffer for me to barge in and say hello to people! I've wanted to do it for a while and couldn't for the life of me think up a way to do it without coming across as crazy. So when I saw you mention me, I thought "Ah, a natural entry point for me to come in a dip my toe".
Everyone really are very friendly and supportive here, aren't they? I think the guild is rubbing off on them.
I will have you know that I've been over the new things in AVH to check for typos, and I've just finished the prison scenes. Still breaking my heart, thank you very much. ...Katnir-! *SOB* </3
And to Noodle, I'm glad to see another rogue fan! The rogues in this series go through so much, it's a wonder that they haven't gone mad- *remembers Ashur* -er. Madder. I remember in the original ADW release that someone wrote in to mention that Katnir was difficult for them to understand but he was the easiest rogue for me to "get", so it's good to hear that others are coming to understand him well. But ,then again, Earth types are rather easy to figure out.
Hi again, and a happy new year to you!
Best of luck with using that phrase as I think it would be unlikely to yield useful results, although you could prove me wrong! Almost all dead language resources I know (which, granted, isn't a lot) use as direct a translation as possible and skip out the nuance of the original word. The example I gave does better translates into "burning of the mind" but its more literal and direct translation is ardour and is what will be used most frequently, hence why I used that example since you'd mentioned that word previously for magic. Considering this, maybe it would be easier to find a single word and try and expand from there? Regardless, I wish you all the best with your search and a satisfactory resolution to it!
Ahah, I'm glad it was useful! I usually skim read IFs but this was very good and just grabbed my attention. Hopefully I won't find any typos when I start chapter 1, but I'll be sure to report them if so.
Out of curiosity, do you have a language in mind yet if you do choose to follow up on that idea, or are you still considering what would fit in best? No worries if you aren't sure or decided not to do it! I'm just being nosey at this point lol
Hi, first off, thank you for this bleak bundle of fun. Unfortunately, I found some typos in the prologue:
"You do not feel your knees bleeding from your trashing against the hard ground nor the countless cuts, tears, and bruises marring your body and have barely started healing." Thrashing instead of trashing?
"The void quals and shakes at the sound, trying to drown out the sound but fails." maybe squalls?
"You flinch closing your eyes from the sudden intrusion of light to your world of darkness." needs a comma -> flinch, closing
I also saw at the end that you're looking for new words for magic? Have you tried going through a dictionary for dead languages? An example could be "Aeling" which is Anglo-Saxon and translates loosely to: burning of the mind, ardour.
You can find a lot of fun, specific words that could fit your needs!
Thank you again for releasing the game! I'm greatly looking forward to reading the rest of your story!
Hello, I hope you are well!
I recently completed the game and have some notes that you may want to address in a new update. Sorry I can't be more specific in the list, I didn't think to include what scenes they were part of until now, as I write this! (Duh, what an oversight on my part)
I think I was playing v1.01, instead of the initial release, if that helps any.
In a one-on-one conversation with Kyros, its ends like this:
"He gives a final nod before leaving your room.
Once alone you remove your dress and hang it carefully, then don your church clothing once more.
He bears a small smile and a blush when wishing you a good evening."
When everyone comes together to plan the festival:
"Conversation is lively as you eat; your companions discuss their plants for the festival." Erm, plants? You meant plans, I'm guessing?
I found a possible contradiction against your notebook with Bryn:
In the notebook, Bryn goes with the priests to find Ceri and he's already chosen as her paladin. Yet here;
"Then Kyros and come priets left on some strange, secret mission, and they returned with you.
A smile stretches his lips.
Then I was chose to be your paladin. You saved me."
You need a space here:
I-I don't want to disappoint you. I just- the church has feelingsregarding pre-marital sex, and I-"
In one of Kyros' endings, he suddenly wears clothing and then loses them again on the next;
"But that didn't happen. So let's not dwell on it."
Another typo for one of Kyros' endings:
I"'m just getting started."
Another typo from Kyros, but I don't remember the scene (I THINK it's after their argument and they go talk to Ceri?)
"I see".
Despite the above list, the game was beautifully done! It was wonderful to see a more feminine touch on sexuality, thank you very much for making it! I was also a fan of the Hero's Journey so clearly you have a knack for storytelling! I wish you all the best for any and all games you make after this!
Hello all! I was also wondering if this game got abandoned and looked up their tumblr linked on the page. The latest update (that I saw) about the game was May 7th 2023, and it mentioned that they have been working on completing chapter 1 but have had delays. Chapter 2 hasn't been drafted yet.
https://beauideals.tumblr.com/post/716714068801650688/the-delay, if you want to read it yourself. Fingers crossed this means that the game isn't abandoned!
Omg (trying to hold back laugher after that comic), I never even considered what Jeth's life would be like if he succeeded his goal. Poor guy, he's going to have a hard time in general due to his violent tendencies. Also, he was the one that was getting misgendered? I expected it to be Lor for some reason.
Been waiting for this game since the first demo, bought it on release and devoured it on my days off work, finished it already.
It has given me trust issues and a dislike of cats (white cats, specifically).
Signs of a brilliant game!
Btw, the letters from Quinn still end in cQuinn, except the letter in the what if scenario. There are a few grammar mistakes but nothing detrimental to my enjoyment of the game. Example - on one of the side stories (I think it was a mini story? I should have kept a record, sorry!) one of the lines refers to the MCs therapist as 'the kid shrinks', I believe it's supposed to be the kid's shrink lol Just a little typo that gave me the giggles
I do prefer to read as many dialogue choices as I can because they let me know 1. a little more about the character or 2. that the author isn't too interested in in variation in dialogue. It's always a treat for me when I see a different response but that is because I enjoy reading. So naturally I want to give my appreciation that you go to such lengths for your projects.
I will email you the list because of the length and I don't want to clog up the comments page here.
Hello!
Great game and I very much appreciate that it's much faster paced over ADW in regards to reaching bond levels. Very useful for me when I had to reset because I didn't realise I had a select amount of time to raise loyalty for characters and ended up missing unrequired bond events.
Favourite character so far is Jeth the bad ender/the walking red flag because if I'm playing on the villain's team then I'm going for the most villainous of the three LIs! Not salty at all that he killed me twice because I wanted to be rebellious, or that he slashed me up/wanted to attack when I declined his advances because I wanted to check out Mikaylis and Deita. And hot damn does he know how to run hot and cold with the MC, when he's happy he's ecstatic and overly affectionate and when he isn't, well... What an utterly toxic piece of work - I love it. Absolutely looking forward to seeing what end I get with Jeth; I assume it will be morally terrible and I'm so into that. If it isn't as bad as I expect, well, I look forward to the surprise!
Btw, I noticed the slight design change on Deita! It's much more obvious that she's water compared to the original ADW with the multicoloured beads in her hair and on her collar. Still forming an opinion on her, she seems likable enough. For me at least, her personality isn't as strong as the other characters in the game, including the non LIs. I understand why, however. She's a good person stuck in an impossible situation, trying to survive now she's served her purpose, treading a fine line to be a good influence and not overreaching. It makes sense to me that she has to subdue herself and play the long game. Again, I look forward to seeing her endings now she's taking a more 'active' and stronger role at the end of the war prep.
Mikaylis seems sweet (compared to Jeth... which honestly is a terrible frame of reference for anyone). He's a bit needy but that's understandable. Maybe it's because I'm comparing him to the others in AVH but he doesn't seem that bad, like he's only there because he wants to support his sister and uphold the law. I was glad to see that he gets jealous when MC favours Jeth/goes to the forest because until then it seemed that he was too passive. I mean, he does admit that's how he wants to stand out but come on man, don't be a doormat!
I do miss that this doesn't have friend events but I do see why these are missing from both a technical and plot point of view. These characters are obsessive; capable of being suffocatingly possessive and cloyingly sweet depending on the favour shown by the MC that friendship simply doesn't/cannot satisfy their wants and desires. Also for you that's a hell of a lot more work and I don't blame you for giving that a hard nope.
Also, I have spelling corrections to give but you don't have an errors page here like ADW does so I wasn't sure what to do. I thought it would be best to ask, should I post them here or do you have a different different preference to receive them?
I haven't found everything (not that your work is riddled with mistakes!), and I only record them as and when I find them - and stopped when I reached the war prep for reasons I have since forgotten. Basically, I haven't been actively looking but would be happy to do so if you'd like/find helpful?
Wish you all the best!
Phew, I'm so glad that didn't annoy you! I didn't intend to record all of these originally but with baby brothers at college asking me to double check their work and younger colleagues doing the same I kinda, sorta got in the headspace and your work was the first thing I came across while in that mood. At least it was helpful to you so I'll do my best with A Villain's Heart.
I'm sorry to hear how tired you're feeling lately, unfortunately all I can do is to send my best wishes and hope you get some rest. I understand how easy it is to miss words, god knows I space out and do it too so it's only right that I do my best to support another person with similar problems.
I don't really have much to add regarding errors now I've listed them all. Only one thing bothers me but it's not an error, more likely something you didn't have time to do. All the little common units have their own story (which I love, it makes them less generic to me) but I can't support Earth Rogue after the second bond talk! He asks whether I should continue to lean on him or words to that effect. I just want to help get him out of his depressed funk :'(. I can't complain, I get the +1 bond each time and that's what's most important. Talking about the common units, I have to wonder just what Earth Knight drunkenly did/say that he felt he had to beg forgiveness!
Regarding the characters, I like them all to more or less degrees. I've stated that Ruwin and Beisel are my favourite but their reasons for being so are completely different. Ruwin simply amuses me because of the sheer devotion he has for the MC, even to the point that he doesn't care about angering/annoying the others. ...Buuuut I also see that he wouldn't care about that anyway so it makes him feel more genuine and not as someone trying to get the 'closest'. He's very simple and honest and I tend to like those kind of characters in general (even if he did threaten to beat me into a bloody pulp, at least he admitted that he'd regret it). He even admits that he wants to be more like the MC; doing good things for others seems to be his end goal because he doesn't want to regress into the sort of person he was feels very human. I think most people can relate to this to more or less degrees, the desire for self improvement (hopefully not to escape the torment of a past murder though...). The one thing I noticed is that he expands on different past sins depending on whether you're on the love or friendship scene, I felt that was a good attention to detail. It seemed that with the friendship route, he's trying to be completely open but on the love route he wants to be as open as possible without destroying any chance he has with the MC.
Beisel is adorable! I've tried the love and friendship scene for all the characters and she was a darling in both of hers. The overall theme she gives me during them is that she just wants a someone close to her so she can pamper them. The admission that she wanted a best friend to walk arm in arm with was what ensnared me. I aww'ed too much over that. I usually have problems with warrior women because of how they're portrayed, the whole thing where they are strong and may as well be a man with boobs because femininity seems to be anathema to them. But Beisel was just perfect, she may not be feminine but she is 'girly' and isn't ashamed of that, she has times where she's tired but understands that she just has to get back up and kick butt. An awesome little lady. I do wonder how different she acts with a male MC and I will try it out in the future (preferably when the grinding has been sorted).
While I have trouble deciding which character is number one or two in my eyes, Katnir is a very respected three. He seems to genuinely care for the MC early on. While the others are all arguing what the Transient One will do to do whatever it is they want the MC to do, Katnir is reminding them all that the MC has no obligation and may well just want to go home AND THAT'S OKAY. The difference between the friendship and love route was much more obvious but it made sense to me. His mini freak out after the love confession stems from him overthinking, which he seemingly does frequently, so he seemed to stay within character to me.
The others are sweet too in their own way. Lor needs some tissues - he's just as honest as Ruwin in the emotional sense just in the opposite way. Emotional honesty is not the same a factual honesty and it's very easy to see early on (as Water Mage) that he has some secrets if only because he repeatedly downplays himself so he doesn't give the MC any information that may lead to him slipping up and admitting things he did not want to confront. Again, like Ruwin, he's tormented by his past but unlike Ruwin he believes in redemption and will aspire towards that. Same desire but different reasons (the desire to do good but become a better person (Lor) and the desire to do good to not be a bad person again (Ruwin))
Samuel and Beleiph seem to have a similar character development in that they need to learn how to interact with others. Samuel is trying to figure out who he is when he isn't the temple fortune teller but he is kind and earnestly tries to reach out (he's the only character that figures out that maybe the MC isn't feeling all that great about being there and may want a hug/friendly pat-pat!). Beleiph seems to know who he is already but doesn't know how to progress and bridge the gap between people and beasts. With that being his life work, he is aware that he has little to say other than that and it seems to cause some level of personal discomfort because he wants to get close to the MC and just doesn't know how. Samuel seems like he has the ability to learn and grow on his own but Beleiph will need a bit more help and doesn't know how to ask for it.
I may have read these characters wrong but that's my interpretation on them all. They have very human issues, that people can sympathise with even if they don't understand. It has only just occurred to me that the similarities between characters (redemption - Lor/Ruwin and humanity - Samuel/Beleiph) seem to happen with conflicting elements. I don't know if that was intentional but nicely done! And of course, Beisel doesn't have this issue because she's lovely and wonderful as is.
Regarding the loyalty grinding, I have a few thoughts. I noticed that money isn't used very much after recruiting all the common units (at least I didn't use it other than to pay for Samuel's readings) and had an idea. What if there are other gifts to buy that give small loyalty boosts like +2 or +5 or whatever depending on price?
On another note, it turns out I've played your previous work! I had finished Soul Union then dabbled with Soul Labyrinth in my (at the time, sparse) spare time and enjoyed them, swore that I would keep an eye on future works, got caught up in my work and unfortunately forgot about you! Even after playing ADW something had played on my mind - "why does this art style feel similar?" So when I looked up what else you'd made, I felt like an idiot when it all came together!
So what I've learnt from that is that I'm a fan and am looking forward to whatever comes next from ADW or another project!
I shall stop here and wish you all the best in both your projects and personal stuff! Thank you for reading my comment and not getting angry over the amount of spelling mistakes I raised lol
1. Using air priest in any of the mid rows takes away that slot (I didn't need them but I accidently found this when my mouse jumps as I was making my choice and went ahead to check out what happens)
Tried posting images but they didn't work, so I'll try posting them individually.
2. Second bond talk with Water Rogue with comes up with the KeyError: 'hero, name'
3. Third bond talk with Water Priest comes up with the TypeError: %c requires int or char
Hello!
First off, I would like to say how much I enjoy the game and the characters within (Ruwin and Beisel are my top favs). I could rave about this for a while but I won't because I don't want to waste your time.
I found plenty of spelling mistakes and recorded them for you - unfortunately, I only started noticing/recording them after reaching Brookhaven but here they are! The brackets are my notes, not that I thought you wouldn't figure it out, I just like getting caught up in details.
I am positively looking forward to the alternative world of Villain's Heart and would happily compile a report like this but I suspect after this, you'll get sick my comments lol
I also found a couple of bugs (not very important, but I couldn't help myself and added them , I'll put those down as a separate post from this.

Hi thanks for replying (and so fast too, I didn't expect that)! I went through again to see if it worked this time and it did. It is possible that I had an older version as I'd ran it and left the tab open to try out after I'd finished my work, by the time I'd got around to trying BoC a few days had passed. You must have patched it during that time in between. I thought I'd reloaded the page but I guess not. Sorry to cause extra work for you but thank you for checking nonetheless! It really shows how much you care about this project and I can appreciate that.
And that's great about the downloadable option in the future. I'd be happy to buy it when book 1 is done and I prefer to actually own a copy of what I spend my money on. I do have mixed feelings about it being released book by book, but that's my own petty issue (I don't want to wait for the whole story but I do get to play it earlier than I would if you has released it as one long game. A conundrum indeed!)
Anyway, best wishes to you for the remainder of this year and the next, toodles!
