Some of the jumps are indeed impossible and that's on purpose. You're supposed to make your own platforms from the items you move around. I never explain the mechanics though, so its not that easy to figure out :/

Haha thanks. Yeah the second floor is not required. There are some secret rooms with "rare" items you can access if you figure out how.  I didn't have time to figure out what you would do with them though, so they are just there and don't do anything :p.
