I absolutely loved the idea you were going for, however, one thing really sucked the fun out of this game for me. The game DESPERATELY needs a limit to the amount of spam that can be spawned at once. This causes several issues which I will list below:
1- Turn the game into a idle game: When I first started playing, I really liked that you had to zone out the spam to prevent them from reaching safety. But, since the entire screen quickly becomes covered by spam on day 2 (with no spawn rate upgrades btw), any form of strategy becomes unnecessary since you can just randomly walk around and catch spam because there is so many of them.
2- Make the spawn rate and mega spam upgrades completely useless: As mentioned above, the entire map is filled with spam even without any upgrades, so there is 0 reason to make the spam spawn faster. If a spawn limit was implemented, you could make the spawn rate upgrade also increase this limit so you could still get the low fps chaos which I assume was intended from the <5 fps ending. The abundance of regular spam also make the mega spams irrelevant since it's just faster to run around and collect spam instead of wasting time killing mega spams.
3- Make the sfx really annoying: When there are spam everywhere, all you can hear is the gasp sound and the nom nom nom sound getting cutoff and starting over constantly which gets deafening after some point. This is a real shame because I think the sounds are actually lovely when they are not being spammed 24/7.
That being said, still, I enjoyed the core of the game. Props to you for managing a game jam alongside a full time job!
The art and music are lovely, however the game gets boring fast. I think it would've been a good idea to give the player a goal like surviving an entire work week since it feels pointless to continue playing right now. I also couldn't figure out why you would forward mails to anything other than the filtered mails section. Still, good work!
The game is fun for a little bit, but it gets pretty boring quickly. The difficulty feels overtuned, it feels impossible to win without an autoclicker. I also feel like the theme and special object could have been implemented better. I love the art a lot though. Nice work and good luck on your future projects!
I'm at a loss for words on the quality of both the art and the music of this game. The gameplay on the other hand... definitely overstayed its welcome. I felt like I was going down a one-way spiral of insanity after seeing the 7th paragraph. This was, however, immersive in a way. It really gave me the feeling of powering through months of homework in one night, and the feeling of total relief after completing it was unmatched. 10/10 would never play again.
The boss difficulty is a common complaining point, I will definitely pay more attention to balancing next time. I'm glad you enjoyed the discord segment, guess it was worth the effort. This game is amazing! I love the visuals, the audio, the gameplay, the writing, literally everything, great job! The only nitpicks I have are:
1- It could be a good idea to swap the places of the character sprites and the line where the enemy sends spam could be swapped so you can see how you're doing while still focused on the arrows at the bottom
2- The game is a little bit too easy, it could be cool to have an optional challenge enemy that's really fast as a fun test of skill
There is a serious lack of direction, all of my time playing the game was spent planting & harvesting crops then wandering around aimlessy while spamming E hoping to trigger something, only for the game to freeze. The interactions also feel unresponsive since there is no audio or visual feedback. The pixel art is very cute, though! Good luck on future projects!
