The author needs to follow these instructions located at https://itch.io/docs/itch/integrating/platforms/windows.html to make it work with the Itch app.

If you missed the message at the bottom of the save file information, or it is a bit cryptic, this should help a bit.

Keyboard / Controller: Highlight the save slot you want to save to then hold left or right while selecting the slot.

Mouse / Android: Hold down mouse button / long-tap until the text input pops up.

Besides that, times are not saved, even in a single gaming session.

Edit: but because it is a demo (or whatever), I understand.

Apparently one can abuse the lack of a checkpoint system to get insanely low times on courses such as Infinity (like my 7.80s time below).

Low time by abuse of lap calculation oversight

Solved. Thank you.

Like I said …

Just clicking the Install button will not work since the “Install” drop-down is empty (no options to install).

And yes, the download does show up normally if using the other method.

Accidentally did NOT use the proper “Reply” feature when posting the reply here. My apologizes. ^w^;

To be precise, this was the issue I was talking about. Do you have a configuration file for the Itch store to tell it what is what so-to-speak?

Apparently The Smuggler is unavailable for download by using the official Itch app. Just putting this out that you can find out how to make your game compatible with it by using the official Itch developer section just for it.

Sorry if you already found it, but I just now looked it up and found dev info about the Itch app if you still are looking for it.

Unable to install the game with the Itch app as there is no compatible download available for it.

There is a launcher made by the Itch team itself to be able to use it as a download / update manager as well as to launch the games.

If you are wondering, it is free to download and use, with the URL to get it at: itch.io/app

Simple, yet very well executed idea.  Only a few short tracks are close to impossible to get first as it would help to have been in 1st / 3rd place previously to get the first turn .... but I cannot fault that for that's just how randomization works!

Approved by me as a quick "pick up for a few quick races" type of game.

Now I know why the AI zig-zags on straight paths. You have to as well if your car is not aligned, which it likely almost never will be! >w<
