I think it happens when there's an event that's possible at the same time. For example one I had earlier was "Kali is probably taking a shower", and when I went to check, it was Autumn's shower event.
I have the exact same problem, did you happen to activate Kali's max stats cheat? Ever since I did that, her story seems to have gotten reset (I had done it prior to 0.8).
