I liked this! Really dig the whole gnw style you had going on here. The gameplay was simple, but well executed. I was able to get into a really nice flow after a while, and got a score of 285 :D

Thank you :) The rain was actually one of my favorite parts! Managed to squeeze that little sequence in an hour before games were due. All totally fair criticism though, thank you for playing!

Thank you! Started learning pico 8 recently and it's been really fun :)

I'm aware of the visual bug with the tutorial, everything about it is hard coded and is honestly such a mess because I ran out of time💀

The music thing isn't a bug though, there's literally no music haha

Totally fair! Appreciate the feedback, thanks for playing! :D

Severely underrated, I love games like this. Deserves more plays for sure. Well done :)

Thank you so much! Yeah I agree that the money could've been balanced or tweaked better since you'd have a lot of coins by the end. I do think being able to buy more than one upgrade per round is a really good way to incentivize getting more coins though!

Ayy, thank you!

The teleporting quirk is, in fact, intended by design. I know it might feel a bit awkward but I thought being able to instantly switch and retain your position would kind of trivialize the coin collecting part. The dash cooldown visualization thing was something I wanted to add but I unfortunately ran out of time :(

Regardless though, I appreciate you taking the time to try it out! :D

Pretty fun! But as a few of the other people have mentioned, the screams would sometimes be SUPER loud so it definitely caught me off guard the first time it happened haha. I think some variation could've also been really good, but otherwise, very enjoyable!

Yeah those are definitely valid points. Admittedly the dash feels pretty lackluster compared to everything else, and enemies are constantly closing in so you don't really have a whole lot of time to stand and heal the generator. Maybe it would've been worthwhile if I increased the heal amount. The coin magnet thing was more of a quality of life thing, but yeah some of the upgrades could've had some tweaks for sure. One obscure detail that literally wasn't mentioned anywhere is that coins actually gain value over time as they get closer to expiring. Not a huge amount (5 base -> 10 max) and I mainly did that as an experiment to see if it would make going for those coins waaay off in the distance more worth it. Not sure if it actually makes that much of a difference, but hey, fun fact.

Thank you for playing though! Glad you enjoyed and appreciate the feedback! :)

Yeah I'm aware of that little bug in the tutorial haha! The tutorial bit was added last minute and it's kinda held together by hardcoded spaghetti xD Thanks for playing!

Neat game! The abilities were a lot of fun to use and the movement felt nice.

Appreciate it! :D

Thanks! :) I'm not sure if the game would be as fun without all the juicy impact haha

Thanks so much! I made sure to give the lighting as much juice as possible :D I agree some waves could've been tuned better but unfortunately didn't have as much time as I'd like to test. Glad you enjoyed!

Yeah, once you get the rhythm down it can feel super satisfying! Thanks for playing :)

Haha you're good man. Appreciate it!

Glad you enjoyed :) Thanks for playing!

Sometimes it can be a little tricky to hit them since they radius is pretty tiny if you don't have the upgrade for it, yeah. Some  enemies get scaled during certain waves, so some will have more hp sometimes. Glad you liked the sounds!

Yeah, that's fair criticism. It can definitely be a little awkward at first, but like you said it would kinda trivialize the coin collecting part as it would be super easy to just kill -> swap -> collect coins -> repeat. Glad you still had fun though! :)

Loved the art and visuals. The intro was was great haha. Would've definitely liked to play more, but still had lots of fun with it. Great game!

Sure! If I add anything that's worth another look I'll let you know :)
Can't remember exactly how far I got (I think it was around 20k?) but I actually killed myself on purpose because I was getting bored 💀Like I totally could've kept going but I was like "nah, this is waaaay too easy and repetitive I gotta change something"

Yeah, I actually think the bombs are really satisfying, but as you said, the gameplay did get a bit stale (and a bit too easy) after a while which is the next problem I'm trying to solve. Don't know how far I'll take this project but I appreciate the input as always, thanks for playing :)

Your suggestion about adding health bars has been added :)

Also... BOMBS!

Thanks! :D

Hehe, glad you liked it! I actually tried to give enemies their own health bar or something to indicate how much health they had but couldn't get it to work how I wanted. Could be something for me to revisit in the future though.

I think pico 8 is honestly a nice little tool, but it can be pretty jarring if you're coming from other engines like Unity or Godot, and even more so if you're not familiar with lua. I definitely had some growing pains trying to learn how to use it because it's really different than what I'm used to working with. But once things started clicking it became sooo much more fun to use.

Hey, other programmer here. What you saw is pretty rare. Like spobuboblingo said, you're the first person to call that out, so I'm glad someone finally caught that. There's actually a second variant of that easter egg which is even rarer, though. God forbid you (or anyone else) see that one:

I was not entirely sober when I wrote this, and it was originally meant to be a joke, but in the end we decided to keep it in.

deez nut

Really neat concept for a game and I think the artstyle is really cute but I cannot for the life of me figure out the password on stage 4. Also can't find the last two food items to feed the monster on stage 5

caked up buns

Thanks for playing, appreciate the feedback!

Yeah I did in fact run out of time so I didn't get to complete or polish it as much as I'd have liked to, but pretty much did the bare minimum I felt was necessary to have something playable at least. Will definitely take those points into consideration!

ay whoa, you're still here! :o

honestly, development has slowed down a lot lately, been feeling really burnt out, so I've been working on it less and less. I still don't want to completely abandon it though, and want to keep working on it. will definitely have to scale down the scope a lot though—it's gotten to the point where it's gotten pretty overwhelming since I'm doing it all myself.

tbh don't really expect it to really blow up, but it'd be awesome if it did. thanks for sticking around though. the fact that someone out there (other than just my friends) actually likes this silly thing I've made makes it worth it. so thank you :)

Thank you :D

The game can save, but it might have gotten wiped after I updated the game. I'm not sure if there's a way around that, but you could always just press "p" to level yourself back up to where you were before like I mentioned in the other post.

Sorry about your save. :( I'll definitely look into it to see if there's a way I can prevent that from happening in the future. Thank you for playing though, I'm glad you had some fun with it!

You can press "p" to instantly level yourself up and get as many skill points as you want. Then just max out your jump/haste. Also wow I did not expect anyone to find out about that area. :o

Could you elaborate on the skill not working? As long as you have at least 1 skill point on it, it should work. Also make sure to check that you're pressing the right control key and not the left one.
