Thank you for trying it out, if I may ask- did you also try to refresh your browser after starting the game? While it's definitely an issue I have to solve in the future, that seemed to help others who played the game!

And about the intro, I fully agree, the intro is quite long but it's also a part of this specific experiment for my thesis so it's intentional- but- I did add a feature that shows up once you've died the first time, you may skip the instructions with the Key that's showing in the Game Over Scene! :)

Hey, thank you so much for trying! (: Once my bachelor thesis is over I'll start from scratch & I plan to add subtitles to make it easier to understand. If the dialogue was too quiet to understand, if you go near the red room it get's louder.

In case you'd still like to try it out here's the steps of what's going on:

The dialogue that's playing is giving you instructions at the end, once it's over you're supposed to press the blue button to lure monsters to your room- to prevent them from getting inside, you have to rush to the opening garage door & press the red button next to it (keep it pressed until fully closed) to keep them out. After the music is finished, another dialogue will start playing, opening the main door for you to access the hallway. At the end you'll find another button to press to help open the door for the NPC that's giving the instructions. On your way the music will start playing again, only walk while the music is playing otherwise the monsters will hear you & get to you.

(In case anyone else encounters similar issues, I hope this helps.)

But thanks again for trying, hope you have a great day! (:

Hi everyone! :)

I'm currently working on my bachelor's thesis about how immersion and tension can be created in horror games without relying on complex gameplay mechanics. As part of my research, I created a short first-person horror prototype and I'm looking for participants willing to play it & complete a questionnaire afterwards.

The game is an experimental prototype rather than a finished demo, so the focus is on testing specific design techniques rather than visual polish. You can play it directly in your browser- a playthrough as well as filling out the questionnaire should take around 10 - 15 minutes tops. Headphones are highly recommended, please use  mouse + keyboard as well!

I'm especially interested in feedback regarding immersion, tension, atmosphere and the experience of the limited gameplay/interactivity. I need at least 100 participants for the evaluation of my bachelor's thesis, so every completed questionnaire genuinely helps a lot.

Game + questionnaire can be found here: https://chrxxshh.itch.io/crisis-prototype

Outside of my academic research I appreciate other feedback if anyone wants to share, it's my first released prototype, so I can use all the help I can get! :] Thank you everyone in advance, I hope you have a great day!

Thank you very much for playing & giving feedback :]

To anyone else experiencing similar issues while playing, please try a different browser then Mozilla Firefox until the problem is found & fixed! :)
