Fair point, truly appreciate the honesty. To clarify: This post is about the concept, not the current build. The placeholder is just for vibe. There is no need to play! Purely design thoughts.

Thanks For The Feedback :)

Currently, my game is unfinished, but I've received some encouraging feedback to continue working on it. Now, I need your brutal honesty:

Game Concept:
You're alone in the frozen woods, your campfire is your only source of light, and your health bar. During the night, enemies try to destroy your campfire, and you must defend it. Collect their souls to level up yourself, to heal your campfire, or buy weapons or skills from the merchant to upgrade your combat skills. Lose the fire, lose your life. How long could you survive until the last light in the forest is put out?

Question:
Would this keep you playing for more than 10 minutes? Why/why not?
What existing game does this remind you of (good or bad)?
If I could only add or remove ONE thing, what would it be?

Thanks For The Feedback! :)

This is my first game jam and first Godot project without tutorials. My game was so incomplete that it only consisted of 3 sprites and a concept, nowhere near 'finished'! But all of you still wrote kind and motivational comments. :)

I was nervous when submitting it, but waking up to your support? You all made this jam feel incredibly welcoming. Seriously, thank you. This community’s kindness is next-level!

Thanks so much! This means a lot, especially coming from a fellow game dev. Can’t wait to keep polishing it!

Thanks! Follow my itch page. I’ll post updates there about the project!

Thanks so much! It make me really happy if you‘re willing to follow along my journey in creating this game! :)

Thanks! I‘m ecstatic about finishing this game too! Love for you to follow along!

Thank you for helping me fix the dimensions! (IDK how I did it lol)

Thank you so much! It would be GREAT if you could follow along in my journey to finishing this project!

Thanks! Seeing all these comments, I'm more than motivated to continue development of Dying Ember and it would be awesome if you could follow along too!

Thanks for answering the questions.

Wow, you are talented in Godot! Like you, I had zero real game development experience before this jam, but unlike you, my project flopped. How did you learn so much Godot in such a short time?

Good luck on your software development journey :)

My game has a click-through rate of 1.68% too, so this must be the average.

NOOOOOOO I WAS ON LEVEL 29 :(

Recommendation:
Make a card that increases base damage according to stress levels

Make a spell that allows you to blow up a small part of the board. Like Fireball - Deletes all cards in a 3x3 radius except for the key and exit

Make an item called Escape Rope - Let's you skip the level at the cost of all your hunger and 3 stress points

I don't know the other characters, but it would be nice to have a character who has a chance to dodge any attack as long as its health is lower than the damage of a random enemy on the board

I love this game :)

What a game! I got addicted to playing this for the past hour! The entire game is so easy to play but hard to master.  Love the pixel art, the whole thing has such a cool vibe.  How do you make pixel art like that?

This is a 10/10 game

How do you beat this game? I ate up to 20 flies and I lost even tho I was eating . So i decided to just let the frog sit there and starve and I LOST! Love the game concept and art style!

THIS GAME IS SO FUN!!! Never thought a wave battle game mixed with potions would be this fun to play. The art is beautiful. The potions are unique. It's awesome!!!

I don't want to be nosy, but two quick questions for you:
1. How long did it take you to make all those potions and implement them into your game?!

2. What are your analytics for this game right now? (Personal Thought; Must be in the hundreds!)

Rooting for you to hit top 10! This game deserves it :)

Thanks so much! I also can't wait to see this project get completed too, it would mean a lot if you followed me.

Thanks so much for the nice comment! I'd LOVE to have you follow along my journey of developing Dying Ember!

That's wonderful! Wish you have a successful game dev journey :)

Sorry but its not suppose to be like that :( more work to do i guess

Thanks!

Nvm I found it, its 1152 by 648. Is that a problem cause i see lots of games use viewports like 640 by 360 or 1280 by 720...

Is it better now? Cause in my POV it seems very zoomed out

How do you get the viewport's size in Godot? Sry I have never done any game dev in my life before

Thanks so much! But when I see it (I didn't add the changes yet), it looks the way I intended it to be, except for the fact that the lighting looks blurry and unnatural. My games so buggy  :(

The game has an awesome atmosphere. Unfortunately, I struggled to activate the fishing mechanic on my trackpad (likely my issue, not your game!).

Quick question, how do you make the loading screen appear as Godot Wild Jam instead of Godot? I really want to use that technique in my next game jam!

If you'd like to see where it goes next, I'll be posting updates on my itch page as development continues. I'd love for you to follow me :)

Thanks! Glad you like the concept. If you'd like to see where it goes next, I'll be posting updates on my itch page as development continues. No pressure, but I’d love for you to follow along! Either way, appreciate the kind words :)

Thanks so much!

Great that you fixed the bug! I have a few bugs myself, any tips on how to tackle them?

Great! Looking forward to seeing your game complete!

Thanks for the art compliment. I‘m working towards finishing this game in the future!

Ikr this is a lesson for me about scope creep

I was playing on a Mac OS using the google browser.

No :(

Yeah, this game is still in development. I started it too late for the jam and focused too much on the art. Thanks for the suggestions!

Fun! Simplistic Pixel Art! Good Job!

Unique artwork, but the game would have been better if you added a tutorial. Spent a little while figuring out the jump mechanics. I still don't know whether eating the butterfly was optional or part of the game. But this was a game that I enjoyed playing! Kinda frustrating when I fall back to previous sections cause of my skill issue.

The main character of the game looked like Darth Sidious. Pixel art was beautiful.  The way you taught the game was something I've never seen before, which was really cool. The cutscenes were cool too, must have taken a lot of time to animate tho. Overall magnificent game!

What a cool game! The level-skip option is a lifesaver. Some of those harder stages were so frustrating but yet fun for those who have patience.  One change I would make is for your game's description for the controls on Itch. It says W and D to move left and right, but your game said A and D to move left and right, so I was like, "That's weird?!"

Cool, but scary.

Absolutely love the pixel art style, the colors give off such a unique vibe! The core mechanic of eating ships are super satisfying to play with. Noticed the sprite occasionally disappears, but otherwise, really solid foundation for a popular game. Keep it up!

Also, how did you make the targeting system for the pirates? Does it target the head specifically or the whole body?
