I'd say think of it in terms of narration. Does he want you to get it right, and if so, what exactly does he want you to understand?
When you play Hangman, normally people try the vowels. So when you run out, you realize something's up.
So I came here because I saw Jesse Cox playing this game....and I got so frustrated that I decided to see where it is so I can play it myself. I'm an avid fan of mysteries and a bit OCD in terms of how to organize notes for puzzles, so in my frustration I found my information and saw that it was free right on itch.io.
And off I went!
I know this game is a "find the file, uncover the secret" type of game that is also slated to remind folks about Her Story. But I found myself being reminded of other things as I continued to play. "And Then There Were None," "Identity," this "cursed tape/letter," Japanese movie where if you watch (or read the letter) a video of a cursed person you'll wind up dead at some point unless you have someone else watch one of you. There was also this Spanish movie from the 60s that had a small dinner party and the guests were so paranoid about wanting to leave and suspecting each other, that none of them bothered to actually open the door to leave (which was completely unlocked and everything was fine outside)!
This game took me about...probably 6 hours total to complete. I uncovered 97/98 files before seeing a comment here about the dream...something I totally forgot about AND, I should note, there won't be a reference notation for. It's just a detail you have to pay attention to and input.
I did get creeped out when I realized how this whole thing worked. Just like I was creeped out by that Hangman game. I was also saddened when I realized that John jumped, even though he wasn't the target. Though, having to comb through everything with a lingering reference made me happy when I uncovered Katherine's scene. I already knew it was her I had to somehow unlock, but I just didn't know where it would go! And I laughed when I figured that out!
This game had me guessing!
I took SO MANY notes (btw, please make it so that we can edit our notes without having to delete it)!
I remember adding Rupert Galley to my list, then as Rupert Galley (?). And then I realized what was going on and laughed.
I started writing profiles on all the party guests just so I can see how far back the chain goes.
MVP goes to Annie.
