> The bats were difficult to figure out. I'm having trouble with them overlapping each other and merging into one entity eventually or, when given collisions, them bumping on each other and clogging hallways. I'm keeping them on the backburner for now.

Yeah, I had the same issue when I was working on it last time, Didn't really find a solution at the time, but something must be doable.

> Again I can't promise any date on the next update (or if it will happen) but man do feedback get my gears turning for the project hahaha.

Totally get this. :D No worries, I'll be around if and when you've got something to show.

Love the progress! :) It feels a lot more smooth and functional.

I have some feedback again, but please do not in any way feel like you have to make any changes based on it, I'm just some guy passing through. :D

  1. Love the weird uncle, really made me smile. :D Is he more of a Dragon Ball Master Roshi kind of character, or is he actually supportive and going along with the main character to dangerous places, but actually terrified of it and trying to hide it? Both of these are great though.
  2. Love the big skeleton boss.
  3. I see you've added some pathfinding with the bats, nice!
  4. Love the open/close sidebar spell-book icon. It would be great if there was also a keyboard shortcut for it, if there isn't already.
  5. Instead of clicking to set a target where to shoot, it might be cool to always shoot where the mouse cursor is (in the direction of the white cone), but if you click then it locks to that position, and the next click anywhere unlocks again.
  6. When casting a spell, I found myself trying to fire multiple projectiles at once by typing "iactus iactus", then hitting enter. I think it might be a cool mechanic for some spells.

Anyway, keep doing what you do. ✌️

Of course, no pressure and no expectations. These are just some external thoughts, it's up to you to make the game you want to make, however you want to make it. :)

I too get side-tracked easily, that's why I'm forcing myself to do weekly updates, so I don't stop thinking about what to do next. :D

I have to say, this is amazing! :)

Clearly it's in very early stages of prototyping and will need a lot of work, but the core mechanics seem very interesting and original.

Some suggestions if you don't mind:

  1. It would be great if you could just start typing an incantation at any time without having to focus the text field.
  2. Instead of the incantation text field being at the bottom where you have to take your eyes of the player and enemies, it might be better to have the input text appear right above the player.
  3. If you make a mistake when typing, it's time consuming to have to [backspace] a bunch of times to get to the typo. It would be great to have dedicated "Clear all" key binding, such as [esc].
  4. Instead of making simpler spells shorter, such as "mm", maybe make them typeable by just the left hand, focusing on the letters on the left side of the keyboard, so you don't have to take your right hand of the mouse. Instead of pressing [enter] to apply it, maybe press [ctrl] + [space], or just have it auto-apply when typed correctly.

In any case, I wish you a lot of luck and hope you continue working on it. :)

This is great, I'm buying it!

If possible, please add:
- death animation
- interact horizontally (like push a button or pull a lever)
- crouch and interact (pick something up)
