Ian is in theory the best in the entire school at her subjects because she is incredibly smart and could easily deal with any subject given to her in school. In practice however, her grades are barley passing because she finds it all incredibly boring and a waste of time to go there, she wholeheartedly believes school is not for the higher thinking.
Ians relationship with her mom is complicated, on one hand she loathes her mother with every fiber of her being for bringing her into this world to experience the pain she has. (She also equally hates her dad who skipped out) But on the other hand she knows her mother is the only reason she is still alive right now even if she hates to admit it, and Ian hates that reality which kind of just circles back to the first reason and loops. So she begrudgingly puts up with her parent.
Ian: "As the archangel Gabriel once said, "In the name of the father, the son, and the holy spirit, don't you go anywhere cause you're about to catch these holy hands!""
The big changing moment in Ians life is when she witnessed a gang shooting with her mother and then watched her mother get beaten and threatened to not talk "or else" they moved in short order after that. This caused her to have a bit of a twisted realization of "People are horrible and need to be forced to listen or behave or else there will be unquelled chaos everywhere". So she took it upon herself to enact this twisted sense of order in her everyday passings.
