wanted to start a thread for tossing in my various teeny-weeny improvement ideas whenever i gradually remember them.
to start off -- and I think this would improve the general gameplay GREATLY -- the font for the printed hash codes could be a great deal more readable. I mainly use a TV connected to my PC, and it is a pain to have to sit up and squint at the screen, trying to discern wether the character i'm looking at is a 0 or an 8 or a capital B. a font with more unique shapes while still being in line with the rest of the terminal stylistically would be a small change with a very big impact. one more thing that goes along with this change, and is objectively more of an aesthetic improvement: i feel like it would feel natural to highlight the hashcode itself in an accent color, rather than blending in with all the rest of the white letters.
crouch jumping. now, i wouldnt know the first thing when it comes to implementing a crouch-jump in unreal, so i'm not sure entirely how feasible this improvement is. to put it simply, when playing in source, a crouch-jump can be performed in either order (jump then crouch, as in VotV, or crouch, then jump.) but they actually yield slightly different jump heights. here's a video showing the difference and a brief explanation as to why one is better:
this embed so ass bruh what just go to 1:17 for the explanation
as it stands in the latest version of VotV, only the jump-then-crouch method yields a higher jump. but as someone who frequently plays source engine games, it is difficult to switch off my muscle memory of crouching before i jump. even if it isn't as complex as in genuine source, it would be convenient to have both methods result in some manner of high jump
other than this, that's really all i can remember for right now. I will continue to update this thread as i get more ideas.
feel free to add to this thread!
