I have now changed the way sounds work in the web version! 
However, I think if the sound was lagging/broken then the web version may not work well for you. Other things might also lag a bit, especially in the late game.

You can try the downloadable Desktop app, which should run much smoother!

Hey! Fair point. I was after something that required a fair bit of intensive clicking / engagement.

Game generally feels easy->hard->easy as upgrades are unlocked.

I have updated the game to include a more casual friendly mode which smooths things over a bit!
