i finished the game. i will now hurt your feelings and tell you everything that i hated!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ok maybe not like that but... this game is littered with a bunch of little flaws. contains mild spoilers 

(played on windows btw)

Art:

honestly, my only issue with the art is how the overworld and pixel art looked, and it mainly has to do with the environment and its colors. It feels like those colors are a bit saturated and bright, so it could use some toning down.

also why are amelias arms like that? her arms are longer on the back/front sprites than left/right. left/right makes her arms look short and stubby.

Music:

nothing wrong with the music, but just out of curiosity, may I ask why certain rooms have their own themes? Like it's funny how the staff room has a different theme than the staff lounge.

Story: 

No real critique, but I feel like the characters are a little dumb for being detectives. like... "how could a random swimmer know that?" I kinda just sighed. This is information you can just look up on the internet. Especially with the fact that the game developer knows this information. These are people with brains and an access to knowledge!!!! The discrimination!!!!111!!!! Thankfully, Amelia recognized this, but jeez...

Gameplay/Bugs:

here's where the juice is. i seriously had to get a notepad to write down everything for this review. i swear i'm not a professional. Like take a look at my inconsistent capitalization during this entire thing.

Starting with the positives, i do like the main thing where you really have to pay attention to details in environment and dialogue and logic. it's gameplay inspired by ace attorney, i heard, but i never played that game so i have no idea how that game works so i wont be able to draw comparisons to it.

During the last "fight" (funny how they're called fights/battles) i felt like i didn't have the evidence I needed (i did) and I felt the need to abort out of the battle to explore a little more (worst mistake ever i ended up walking around the map painfully for a very long time.) I don't know if an abort option would be necessary in this game, but perhaps there should be one perchance.

There's ONE really really big and ANNOYING BUG at the last part of the game before the last fight. it's the one where everyone is in the storage room before they move to the lockers. When they move to the lockers, sometimes (a lot of the time) they will respawn BACK in the storage room AND OUT OF the locker room. 

I believe it happens when you leave the storage room to the pool then go into another room, then back to the pool. This was a real pain in my ass. please fix this. this is by far the worst complaint in this review.

anyway last up, why were amelias suspects for the murderer her friends plus the lifeguard. that's just kinda strange.

Extra:

I honestly liked the previous name of this game "Graywood" better. iirc it got changed because it was already taken or something.

You sly dog!!!!! You really think you can add the god damn Yo Gurt joke in the game and think I wouldn't notice!!!!!!!!!! (it was pretty obvious you probably expected people to notice)

Conclusion:

Sorry if i seemed a bit mean. there's only so many positive things i can say about a game, and I don't want to sugarcoat anything. making a game is hard and sometimes you might think your game is ASS and someone ends up saying its ASS and it actually is ASS-(jk) 

I've been kind of excited for this game to come out ever since I saw the devlogs on instagram. i really like and would love to support indie game devs. gamedev is cool.

I'm honestly anticipating the future of this game and what's to come. I'll be here when Act I releases.

i just wanted to say a few things (complain) before i started the game

my observation skills may not be the best, but i was scrolling on the kickstarter page looking for the link to itch page. it wasn't exactly in a clear spot.

second, theres no way to leave the options menu once its open. I tried pressing Z, X, Enter- nvm it was Esc.

last, the taskbar won't go away.  yeah.

just a little rant. i will play the game and leave another comment later

this is soooo good. i love the kultisti inspired style of the game as well as the atmosphere. such a nice little experience (and just made in 24 hours)

i completed the game in an hour. i appreciate the fact that i only need one hand to play this. simple mechanics with super duper dope puzzles. 

i will say though... those breaking blocks are my worst enemy... i hate them... if they were a person, their bones would break as quickly and easily they break in game...

anyway cool game 5/5 stars

this gaem was soooooooo easy i didn't die a singl taim. vro wished me good luck, but i have the goodest of skilz.

i just got deja vu writing this review. that rhymed. its like i played this game in another universe . :ASLooking:

it is a straightforward and simple game, which i do enjoy. its such a smol gaem tho. it only needds one popcon.

i can see smell touch and taste the jsfxr interface. (random note)

One glaring thing with this game that I don't know if you're aware of is the scaling of pixel art assets. Called mixels or something like that where the pixels are all different sizes. For example, there's an enemy thats like 1.2x bigger, so you scale it up like you're on Google Slides. Basically, not good-looking. The exception would probably be just the font.

you know its serios when it has proper spelling grammer and capitalization^^^ fr nahh but i learned that shii from an inbound shovel short :sob: "son" wilted rose.

back on the topic of the gaem being sooo easy. i reloaded the game just to die to see what it was like. nice freezeframe and enemy runs away from you.

by the way, the art and music is all done by you right? i think just the particle for killing enemies is an asset.

nahhh but this game was so easy i cant beliee people would find this difficult bruv eajlfjasklfjas;lf im a touhou fan dont listen to me. im a psychotic masochist who likes over the top difficult games.

im gonna complain now.

the movement feels too floaty and slippery. it takes the precision out of precision platformer. The slipperiness caused a number of inconvenient deaths at the boss fight because my little goose jamnation couldnt move out of the way.

uh...

i was going to complain about the difficulty curve, but i remembered this is a short game. Short game means that like 5 different mechanics have to packed really close to each other.

"this game is kinda easy" i say as i proceed to get combo'd by raindrops 20 seconds later.

i did two runs of the game. very cool and satisfying mechanic. 

very simple game, but too simple.  you got little drops and big drops, and as you move through the game, the little drops get denser until it caps out at a certain point. The big drops dont seem to get anymore frequent. The big drops caught me off guard at first because i didnt know the squares they shot out were harmful, but after that, they became trivial quickly.

idk what else to say about it. i dont want to say short compliments because i love complaining about things. also because the game is just that simple that there isn't really much to say about it.

i played the game and holy hell is it difficult. the fact that its a platformer makes it like 100x harder. the game is really fun and cool.

my biggest complaint is that nine times out of ten, entering a yukari portal will just immediately result in a death from a bullet on the other side, so a few invincibility frames after entering the portal would be great. and yes, the other two commenters already said this and I will say it again, because the yukari portals are going to give me nightmares. speaking of yukari, you should add train

im so glad i stuck around for the final boss because it was very epic. whats the lore behind this? did sariel turn from the angel of death to the angel of asthma and is out for patchouli or something?

I would like to note about the final boss, is that the webs just spawn in the same place with no variety.

beautiful art in this game. anyway, i don't think its a good thing that my crush is constantly looking over his shoulder for no reason (either there is a history this guy has caught the girl stalking him, or this is just bad game design.)

the guys should definitely only be alerted if im not hiding. it isn't for making the game easier, it's for making the game less frustrating.

on a more positive note, i do appreciate how nice the art in this game looks.
