Looking good! I prefer this sprite style over the chibi style from wautah. Rooting for you.

This game is dope.

Thanks for the comment! I'm making some improvements to the opening heist to be a bit less bs.

Ya attacking the castle locks out the arena. You can advance it to the next round by chatting with the door guard after talking some number of times to others.

I have a character recruitment guide posted onto this page that only shows you the area each can be recruited. David is a tanky lockpicker but can’t join along with your healer.

I made a sequel called My Villain Castle posted here on itch but I never actually finished it so it’s still just a prototype.

I agree adding some more scenes with the entire cast would be best. I’ll add something like that when I get around to doing the next version. Recommending code 987666 for a subsequent play through. Also I recommend investigating the west canyon rubble tunnel before doing the zealot cave quest. The two secret points in the first two maps are the easiest to miss.

Oh, and NG+ is possible. I think it’s either at the top right of the world map or it’s at the roof of the mcguffin castle.

  • the moon key is just below the circle of adventurers hidden behind a rock pile
  • the tower of combats should let you progress all 20 floors without any crowns; whered you get to?
  • you should be able to trigger the scene with the heroes in the swamp oracle mansion by visiting it some time after doing the arena tournament; the mansion has a secret key to the right of a locked door
  • MG is the biggest baddie and I never tested beating it but ya can see the code that sends you there for no reason

Had any change suggestions for what to do in the new versions? More party chatter of scenes vs the hero squad might be ideal to add or a better ending that transitions to the My Villain Castle sequel

Ah the attack on that castle town was one of the last things added so it’s also the least tested and probably the buggiest and least balanced. Thanks for the feedback! I’ll see if I can work in fixes for that area on the next update.

Highly recommending this excellent palette! I'll probably using it some more.

This was done in gbstudio. Really sick software. Originally, the Sphere of Annihilation would immediately destroy someone unless sober Dalia was wary enough to tell the group to avoid it. Free Beer would get consumed by Orcs or Exolix if you had them on the same floor. Jammno usually crushes encounters or boulder traps and punishes swarms but gets disabled pretty readily. I ended up losing a bunch of time figuring out how to make it and ended up not being able to do phases 2-4. Thanks for the feedback though!

Thanks for the feedback! I love this "super gameboy" color palette which worked perfectly with the world.

Works great on steam deck! Seasonal reminder that you are awesome.

Steam launch hype! Good excuse to play it a third time. This game is great great 10/10.

The key is hidden to the right side outside of the inn! There is a narrow gap you can enter the building from the right side.

Aights no sweat I've got a couple YT subscribers that might be in to some jrpg shenanigans. I've warmed em up to it with this mix!

Also sequenced ProfKliq's Crystals into a stepmania song.

Excellent choice of soundtrack *chefs kiss*. I mixed a 45 minute mashup of all of the battle tracks and uploaded it to youtube! I then realized on replay that The Verge was actually slown 25% in-game oops gotta do the mix over again lmao. Yooo I'm about to release my own rpg project this month; got any advice for getting anyone to know about it? I figured I would just do a YT trailer. Thx!

Yeah, I know the feeling! Turns out I was bad at spelling 20 years ago and didn't care to fix a lot of it 10 years ago.

Here's a screenshot of the bug you're looking for, a bit before Dott's place:

Nice typo; v116 unplayable!

"But the bigger and badder monsters might resist Dread, reducing the changes it can be applied to them." That should probably be 'chances'.

This game is godlike.  It has encouraged me to finish an rm2k project. I'm on my 2nd playthrough, this time feeding Miriam every stat up and obol.

Godly visuals. The trippy effect you get on game over is amazing. Big fan of the hyperbolic hues and chunky color blocks.

Bumpin soundtrack and sounds! I'm into it.

Gameplay is a bit outlandish -- I can never go quite where I want and hazards are hard to notice before it's too late.

Seems like you've got basic movement down, but the enemy doesn't know how to finish a slash animation most the time. I think you need to ease the player in to the gameplay with some sort of simple input test.

Try my entry? It's a bullet hell with... unusual controls: https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/461450

Very buggy! The rival dude would just get stuck. Not sure what I'm even supposed to be doing.

I think I'm a bit too fuzzy on the theme with my bullet hell entry:

I don't have only one 'Only one'...

Thanks for your feedback!!!

I hold S a lot to stabilize the ship — maybe that’s not a good sign, but it is a decent strat. I’m guessing you’d rather have WASD move mouse aim?

Warp was so broken, but it felt too fun to patch out. I doubled its appearance rate on the reward screen as soon as I tested it. Warping into orbs to punt them at the enemy was a new way of play.

Rather than following a single theme of only one, I have a lot of one-of mechanics in the game. One  screen, enemy, doodad, collectable, upgrade, ultimate use, etc
