What browser do you use? The game is currently only published for running in the itch website, and I'm not seeing the error you're describing.

I will be iterating on the station a lot of the next weeks, and change the crafting mechanics to be not purely reroll-focussed.

Yeah, even with some counter measures those rare letters are still much more likely to be correct than let's say "e".
