while that stops the reaction to sound, it stops all other movement so it wont sway or follow anything. this is still the closest solution, so thank you very much for your help :

Does anyone know how to separate a sprite from the talking trigger meaning they don't react at all when talking, while still retaining other movement. I've tried to toggle "ignore bounce" in the properties tab but it doesn't seem to have an effect even when I've detached it from any other sprites that may move it. I would be really grateful to anyone who can help me out with this.
