This is great feedback, thank you. That bit about the word tome is exactly what I'm going for—I like when games have mysteries that unfold as you play, which I'd do more of in a fuller version. I'd pack it full of lore and secrets.
Good notes on what felt unbalanced about the final upgrade, too.
For the theme, I was shooting for books in books, shapes in shapes, patterns in patterns, games in games. I am always really curious how people vote on theme. I saw other devs spelling out in their descriptions how their game fits the theme, that's probably smarter than what I did. Especially given the no-text in game lol.
Thank you for playing and for sharing your thoughts!
I was able to play this on my phone which was really cool. Big props for making something mobile friendly.
Fun concept, easy to get the hang of. I squeezed out 12 victories before dying. Those rats didn't stand a chance (once I actually read the instructions and stopped throwing away my sword and spear swaps lol).
It was fun figuring out the cost/benefit of playing a swap on the current board vs waiting for more damage potential—like how playing one sword swap to replace an arrow could net 9 damage vs getting the extra 1 from the arrow now and potentially getting off 3 more damage with the same number of swaps by arranging 4 swords. Did I lose that bet often? Sure, but I had fun. I dig it.
Okay so like I definitely had that thought during development too, but copped out saying "just start" because of the theme lol. Even watching play tests, I saw it startled people, especially the first time.
I'll definitely do that in a new version. Good notes there, thank you.
Glad you liked it, and big respect for checking the damage calcs!
Okay interesting, I played again and actually got to the final score screen, with like 8900 points this time. I used all the tools as I unlocked them and saw way more stuff. I saw the frame, symmetry, flip, etc but I didn't see the darkness one at all this time. I only ran into a couple of the same prompts as the first time too, though they started repeating at the end. Neat that you can play several times and have different experiences.
I definitely let Antwon down, but at least I had fun. I couldn't beat the first level, despite trying like 10+ times lol. I died to just about everything you can die to. A lot. I consider that curved ledge on the way back to be the game's final boss, and you can't convince me otherwise.
Echoing the comment below: I love a bug game.
