Honestly, I think you're exaggerating a bit there. I personally had a lot of fun with the story this route is following and really enjoyed the lore pieces that were added; the fact that it has more serious and dark themes brought more depth to the characters from my perspective, which made me like them even more. So, yeah, I think it's more a matter of personal taste, so I don't think it's fair for you to claim that the things added in this new route are unnecessary.

As name options that I think have a great impact when spoken out loud: 1- Hermann (means "warrior" or "army man"); 2- Gerhard (means "strong with the spear"); 3- Gunther (also means "warrior", and is the one with the greatest sound impact); 4- Werner (means "protector of the army"); 5- Albert (Means "noble and brilliant"); 6-Jager (means "Hunter" and well... he's a panter); 

And here are some options for surnames to go with it: 1- Brand (means "Son of Fire"); 2- Ritter (means "knight"); 3- Ludwig (Means "Son of the glorious fighter" or "son of the illustrious warrior"); 4- Werner (this can also be a surname); 5- Hartmann (means "Son of the fearless man"); 6- Lange (means "relating to someone who is tall" and this surname derives from a popular nickname for tall people or people with large limbs); 7- Kruger (means "ceramist", "potter" or "tavern keeper", has a cool sound and is impactful)
