Pretty surreal to win, ngl 😆😆😆
The guy either takes 2, 3 or 5-6 seconds, and never over 10 (didn't happen to me at least)
The balance is an issue which I believe affects the enjoyment. As some commented, having some dynamic reaction and more variations for the opponent/NPC would make this game even better!
Hell yeah, thanks for playing and the comment! 🔥🔥🔥
I believe I spent a full day just to make movement nice with all kinds of parameters to tune, so I am glad to hear you liked it.
And which part of controls felt clunky so it can be taken into account for future games and fixed in this one after Game Jam?
Yoooo, I am here to share an achievement, I got to floor 22 I think?
(screenshot is from me reaching Area 3)

Feedback:
- Pretty cool, pretty cool overall
- Making a strong build is the main challenge,. My build (not full): at the end of the turn - full hp heal, +6 ammo, +10 turn if at least 1 enemy left, power to make everyone dizzy for 3 turns, and some random ones where I dont lose hp, ammo, turns at a 1/? chance.
- Music and sounds are simple overall, but they add to the minimalistic atmosphere, and (I believe) sounds use random pitch here and there
- I liked the variety of UI and icons
- I didn't like that I HAD to choose something at the end of the floor (likely is required by game design)
Bugs/issues:
- Some ability descriptions have duplicated text like "health health"
- Power to make enemies dizzy for 3 turns includes the turn you use power on which means you only have 2 turns left, I expected 3 turns after they become dizzy, not 2
- I expected turns to decrease any time I move, however they only decreased when there were ENEMIES, which made the description misleading
- Balancing mechanics and making sure your build you were making for last 20 floors doesn't become useless or weak is an issue. You made it quite well, but I am pretty sure at some point you either become THE UNBEATABLE or just die no matter what.
Questions:
- I wonder how you made the audio system / used audio nicely altogether including transitions
Hahaha, thank you very much!
Yeah, honestly, we ourselves didn't fully believe it was possible so you can call it a gamble. The narrative and atmosphere of Rendezvous With Death were I believe the most important aspects that we focused on, but of course we were low on time and wished we had at least 1 more day.
We are already working on a post-jam patch and might as well see how well it will be received by people, so a full game MIGHT come out one day.
In terms of how, I think, magic + luck + dedication + just 3 people and a cat, luckily all of us were of different roles (art, design, code) :)
The game really feels like some Mario or other retro Nintendo game especially because of the music.
It's simple, but at the same time polished and not over-stuffed which is nice.
Yeah, when I was playing, it really felt like I went back in time and played some old nice games haha
Work on it, improve it and one day we will see a truly amazing game with lots of levels and even greater mechanics!!!
The idea is quite unusual which makes it exciting. In the beginning I almost gave up when I couldn't figure out the idea of "holding" your friend and rotating him around to hit enemies.
However, as soon as I figured it all out, I started enjoying the game and working to beat my best or at least save up enough money for the shop haha!
Great one!
We are working on a Twitter page for the game, so that we could notify everyone about the upcoming updates ;)
Either today or tomorrow we will add link to it on the game's page https://awedev.itch.io/pixel-break
