Hi! I have some feedback for Golfdle.

The game mechanics are mostly solid, but the user experience needs some work.

Here are examples, in order of importance:

  1. There are no instructions on what to do or clear display about what is happening. When the game starts, it just says “DRIVER / Strokes: 1 / Green” at the top and “Click to aim => Click to confirm” at the bottom. What hole am I on? What is the par for this hole? How many holes are there in total? The user needs a clear goal and some expectation of how long the game might take. When I first played, I was on mobile and struggled just to finish the first hole because of the controls. I thought I was finished and was confused why the game did not end.
  2. On mobile, I accidentally tap to swing very often when I’m trying to just pan for the right spot to target. A dedicated “Swing” button would improve the experience on mobile immensely. On desktop, it works fine but I think a “how to play” modal would really help new players.
  3. A lot of the time when I try to press the “Cancel Shot” button, it does not cancel and instead swings to hit the ball. Maybe the hitbox for the button should be bigger, especially on mobile.
  4. There’s no option to turn off the sound, there should be!
  5. When the hole is off the screen, I think there should be a flag+hole indicator in the direction of that the hole is in.
  6. There should be some sort of arrow or path coming from the ball while you’re aiming. It’s easy to lose the ball, especially if it is next to a hedge.

On your Golfdle.com domain, it would be nice if there was a way to leave feedback! I had to find this page to do so.

There is a lot of potential with this game, thank you for working on it! I like the end screen with the score card! Is the bar chart global stats?

Good work! This is just like Flood from Simon Tatham’s Puzzles, one of my favorites from that collection :D I like your artwork for the paint buckets, but I would find it easier to just click the colored cell to fill with that color. You could have both options!

Another small bit of feedback: It would make more sense to me if the New Game button was directly below the Size and Colors options, since those are what affect the new game.

Fun puzzles, very cute frog!
