I personally agree, both choices are good. Freedom would only make you happy if you weren't free at the moment, or were facing the loss of freedom... otherwise, freedom is just the status quo, right? Lot of unhappy free people out here nowadays... I'd probably pick happiness personally. Rather ensure happiness and gamble on freedom being taken away, than the counter-argument. :D

Just to play devil's advocate, here, but... while Freedom DOES give you the ability to chase happiness... you may never catch it. So, while you have the CHANCE to be happy, ONLY Hapiness can GUARANTEE it.

Also, nobody said it was a cage. Nobody said you wouldn't HAVE Freedom, also! It simply asked, SPECIFICALLY: "Which would you choose?" Never stated you could only HAVE one of them. Right? Better to ensure happiness, and gamble on freedom, than choose freedom and gamble on happiness... an unhappy existence makes freedom worthless.

And, if you say, "Freedom makes me happy!" No... the IDEA of Freedom makes you happy... but only if you're facing NOT being free otherwise. Freedom wears off, rather quickly, I might add. Many many free people in the world today... most of them unhappy.

Just food for thought. Devil's advocate, and all :)
