Hello!
I believe it was this comment that alerted us that something was wrong after we submitted the game for the Jam! After aredmarker let me know what happened, I spent a couple of days trying to figure out what the heck happened between the build I had and our submission! Today, we pushed out an update that hopefully addressed the strange bug that cause both the sound to oscilate in a strange way many times a second while the screen shook forever while frozen.
Thank you for both playing our submission and letting us know that something was wrong!

Our Sound Designer, Lor1n, was the one who made the music at the direction of our Artist, aremarker, and I think the music came out wonderful!
As for there being no restart button, I do apologize for that! Personal time constraints unrelated to the Jam prevented me from funnelling as much time as possible into adding features this time around. I did, however, end up patching out a couple of bugs that caused people to instantly lose for no reason today and hope that helps alleviate the issues people were having, though still no restart button unfortunately. I didn't want to add stuff beyond the jam time limit so I opt's simply to fix the biggest issues instead.
We appreciate you taking the time to play our game and taking the time to let us know what you thought!

Our Artist (aredmarkerI) was the one who pitched the beam mechanic and we all thought it was really cool too! I do apologize for the strange "instant from nowhere" spawns on the poLICE. As the end of the Jam aproached, I think we reworked how the poLICE spawned about 3 times and I started slapping things together as fast as possible and forgot to play a noise or put a marker where they spawn on the map other than "in front of the poLICE StaSHUN".
The good thing is that the bug that made them spawn and then lost the game was patched out today. I do appreciate you playing our game and letting us know what you thought about it!
Thank you!

Thank you for the advice and for trying out our submission!
We became aware of the litany of bugs almost a day or so after submission and due to personal time constraints, I wasn't able to code some bandaid solutions until today, haha. I have patched out some critical bugs (the northern barrier was turned off by mistake when testing something else, and the nightmare-ish bug where the music beam sounds and people + poLICE despawned synced into a jumpscare were among some of the most reported problems and hopefully fixed) but I'm not sure if I should include a couple of features due to trying to be "in the spirit" of the Jam. I've opted to remove the esc key crashing the game though because I have no idea why I coded the game to do that.
As for the menus, I think this new version will prevent players from messing with the camera again lol
Thank you again!

So I spent a good amount of time on this wonderful game, constantly babbling out loud trying to decifer the words. I did not get all of them but I did "beat" the game. I cannot express what an incredible and novel experience this was for me. At some point, I stopped using the mouse because it felt much more immersive to use the arrow keys for that "early pc" feel. The weird part about this whole experience that I found strangely intrigueing (and kept urging me to go further) was that I know I got some words wrong but being "wrong enough" brought me through to being "right enough" because I would understand why a sentence was wrong. Thanks for making this complex little game. And in Pico 8, even!
