figured out the issue! the error only happens when i start the game from the itch.io desktop app. if i start the game from my finder window, the save function works just fine
copy that! i'll try that out. i did some research myself and i opened permissions everywhere i could think of but it didn't fix it. i'll try and reinstall for now.
