it's quite minimalistic and I love it! I really appreciate the simplicity and I can see the artistic purpose and it is brilliant. I loved it so much that there’s still a little part of me that wishes I’d played it more smoothly. I do not know if it was something wrong with my pc or the shaders when looking forward the path that makes my framerate low.
anyway i loved it, great work!
really good-looking and entertaining game! mechanics are clear and so simple that they are self explanatory, good job for that! the loop is clear and it makes more sense for the GMTK one.
levels are fine but, have you considered resetting the whole level state and make them shorter? resetting the position only makes me want more! i mean, the time trial makes less sense for me because you can just reset the time every time you get a key or use the key.
apart from that, it is very well served, the theme is on point. well done!
hi, the programmer here! i actually agree. we were considering adding an "against-something" trial, something like a timer or someone or something that chase you.
instead of that we decided to go on with just movement and precise platforming since the feeling of instability and randomness of thepocket, along with the understanding of the pogo system was our main focus.
we had plenty ideas of mechanics and game modes like a bonus level with 20 objects, an "endurance" game mode where you had to keep the objects in the pockets while hundreds of birds attack you, different shapes and sizes of pockets and objects, sacrificing some objects in the pocket to launch them and interacting with other systems, an actual pogo mining mechanic, a extraction game mode...
thanks for the comment!
Very neat presentation and aesthetics, I think you nailed it! The retro art-style is on point.
As mentioned in other comments the UI is also flawless keeping the windowed, operating system-console game. I have nothing to say about it because is 1:1 to a retro game without losing the modern touch.
It's a good treat that you considered to add that much lore too, it add some additional layers.
About the gameplay, it is addictive. First, it seemed too dificult but once you get the loop and, most important, you do understand every system, it is so entertaining. Very polished I'll say.
Congrats!
