Thank you, Darling 🦊❤️

As someone who fully beat the game and players not having played it yet... A little question for you:

Have you ever played a Fromsoftware game like Sekiro or Dark Souls or any other game, spending some time and learning patterns of bosses until finally beating them and feeling the dopamine rush of accomplishing something.. Outstanding?

This is exactly the definition and how I felt after defeating ANY boss in this game.. Here are my thoughts about the game "Derelict":

Positives:

- Every boss in unique in their own way!

It is really crazy that every boss has their own way of defeating it, unique traits, unique patterns and also surpriseful elements.. The boss "Unity" actually being 3 bosses is crazy and not only that.. A boss literally being a "fake" Checkpoint is truely a masterpiece of an idea! It really caught me off guard and I loved it! xD

- The guns and progression in Derelict

To be honest.. I didnt like the second gun at first, because of the knockback and charge up time even though it brought progression and variety in the game... But that thought of mine was way too fast and wrong, because actively switiching between both weapons is what brought the win home to me.. So it was a huge skill issue! Besides all that, the primary gun instantly reminded me of a better "Negev" in CS:GO which I like a looooot!  Also.. Using the secondary gun as a way of parcour to reach the "Unity" boss was just absolute cinema.. Literally peak level designing and amazing way of the Metroidvania concept!

- It feels satisfying to play and is peak enjoyment

The gunplay, combat and movement (5 jumps if i recall correctly) is just smooth and allows to dodge a lot of attacks and seeking for open windows while still shooting and repositioning! Also.. The player character falling slowly while shooting is also a very good decission not only for combat but also for the platforming elements of the game.. I give it a huuuuge plus! Also... like stated above: killing a boss in this game is really satisfying.. I could instantly feel the dopamine rush after finally killing "????" after the dodge-challenge was done! Even though... The first time I thought it was over it caught me heavily off guard and I died XD

Critique:

Even though I have a little bit of critique.. its just nitpicking on a very high level so... here we go:

- THIS GAME NEEDS MUSIC

I can imagine every boss having a soundtrack would reaaaaally push this game beyond its limits! Having soundtracks that push you or hyping you up could really be a huuuge improvement to the game overall!

- Minor bugs:

There are some minor bugs in this game e.g. the door not opening after beating the "Unity" boss, clipping through the elevator before the "????" boss or the other ending not working properly due to an unfortunate bug.. After a bit of polishing and removing those bugs it will be even better than it already is! The developer already knows those bugs/issues and is working on a fix soooo, everything should be alright! <3

- The player character is too fast.. (atleast.. sometimes?)

Especially in some sections where you need precise movement (e.g in the rust fight, with the "x-cross" lasers and fireball rain or the "left-right-left-right" arrow rain section in the "????" fight) to not get hit.. It feels really "unrewarding" or "not fair" to the player especially after dying.. My recommendation is maybe adding a new button like "Shift" to walk slowly? That would really help in precise movement scenarios <3

EDIT: I've just noticed there is already a mechanic like this... Soooo... Me dum dum... I just noticed xD

In summary:

I loved this game. From start to finish! I loved that all bosses basically fulfilled every critera in the jam, while also meeting up to the magical girl and metroidvania genre! Very creative level and game design, charming artstyle and lovingly crafted! Even though some bosses like the "Rust" and "?????" fight really took some time to finish... I dont regret fighting them until beating them though!

5/5  ☆

I am looking forward to play the game again once its patched and I really hope for some bigger updates in the future as well! (for example some soundtracks maybe? Or even more bosses? ;3) Other than that.. I am also looking forward to play more games by winterbraid because damn.. creating this masterpiece of a game in ONE MONTH as a ONE MAN AMRY? Imagine what this developer can create, design and develop in a bigger team with as skilled as members?!

(Note to the developer:)

To finally get done.. Thank you for reading my wall of text and please never lose the spark of passion, developing games and keep game designing.. Also.. If you read this winterbraid.. The way you are writing, talking and taking the time to rate and comment on other games... you seem like a very polite and thoughtful person.. I like that <3

(Sorry for any major grammer and writing mistake.. I am from Germany xD)

Much love ~ Alucifex!

YOOOOOOO FOR REAL?! Thats crazy!!

Ahhhhh, I see.. Very unfortunate bug.. :(
But I am still looking forward to the patch :3

No need to apologize and you are welcome! <3
Of course! You put so much effort into your game and I just wanted to:
1) Finally beat the boss because I am too eager to just give up XD
2) Honor your masterpiece of a game.. Creating a game like this in a month and alone.. Is just remarkable and outstanding!

I will write a longer review on the Jam-Page and tell my thoughts in greater detail!

Much love and please.. Keep being a game designer, dont lose your passion and create more games... This industry needs people like you! ~ Alucifex

Hey there! <3

A quick question before.. I rate your game (its totally awesome btw) really nice challenges and fights! I fought the "????" and beat the dodge challenge after.. After that I was stuck in the room with a pulsating circle.. After a while and nothing changed, I jumped into it, but got damaged :<

So I thought, maybe I should die there? xD Then I died and well.. I think I got the ending of dying to "????".. What exactly am I supposed to do? q_q

Also I beat: Python, Rust, Orb, Construct and Unity.. and I have to say, I loved every fight.. My personal favorite ones being Rust and Unity!

Daaaaaaamn just finished the game 100% and I have to say, I really fell in love with the story overall, the mechanics, the level design and the charming voice acting + borders for the dialogue-boxes!

I am a sucker for Metroidvania and platformers, so this game really brought a lot of joy to me! A big plus for this game was the pearl counter and minimap so for me as a completionist made it a lot easier to find everything! The enemies were super cute e.g. the WIWI-Cat and the snake <3

I really loved finding the water-pearl that made swiming so much more satisfying and the flying abbility was just funny overall to use, even though it seemed sooooo OP XD

There are some minor issue I can talk about just to let you guys know (it really isnt much and nitpicking on a high level):

Putting enemies at a start of a screen, when transitioning (sea area) is a risky choice.. I nearly died and this could cause some frustration if you actually die!

I've softlocked myself in an area where I needed the double jump to proceed. The bat enemy just flew up and I wasnt able to hit it anymore unfortunately. Thanks to the reset mechanic I didnt need to restart the game though so... much appreciated <3

Like stated the flying ability seems kinda busted, was still pretty funny to use!! xD I would have turned it into a more "floating" like ability. But other than that it seems fine, becuase needing it for the story progression!

The only "big" complain I see in this game is the endboss.. Its pretty easy to defeat and rather boring in comparison to the rest of the game.. But I dont mind at all, because the rest was really really enjoyful to play!

In summary:

Overall a very charming gaming, awesome artworks, really nice story and I enjoyed to play through it and beat the game!! <3

Much love, keep up the good work and game designing and I hope I can play future games of you guys again! Also.. on a side note really quick.. I wanna voice act something now.. xD

(Sorry for some spelling mistakes, I am from Germany LMFAO)

~ Alucifex

Awesome concept, awesome visuals, awesome soundtrack.. Really.. Just an amazing short game. Enjoyed every second of playing and seeing the rocket jump as a way of progression really filled my heart with joy (as a sucker for platforming and metroidvanias in general lmao)

Absolute cinema, absolute peak level and game designing <3

Only disappointment (not in a bad way) was not beating up a boss at the end xD

Also minor improvement is slowing down the text at the end.. Other than that, you guys did a phenomenal job! <3

Much love ~ Alucifex

I loved that this game had a lot of variety for example a completely weaponless mode, a boss fight and also fighting the smaller enemies! The music also was a huge bopper so a lot of plus points for that <3

I can see the game being further developed in the future and am looking forward to it like more levels, polished visuals and also more mechanics! My only critique here would be that I cant quit see or comprehend the "unity" aspect of the game :o

I am also gladly looking forward to an explanation :3

Really loved the dialogue (story), background music and visuals <3

But I have to say, the character movement is a little bit too fast in my opinion and the level of difficulty is extrem.. ._. I couldnt get past the second pillar and seeing more coming while doing the first pillar over again kinda took my motivation to play on.. Could be a huge skill issue, but... Its very hard xD

Will try again in the future tho! I see potential for the future OwO

My recommendation: I would add a mechanic like a "double jump pallet" that you could collect mid air to do a single double jump!

Hihi, thank you :3

Thank you, darling <3

Daaaaaaaaamn holy! (in a good way xD) Thank you sooooo much for your massive input and feedback on our game <3

Thank you so much for your words on the intro animation. To be honest.. I am not much of an artist, but I tried my absolute best and would consider it as my current "magnum opus" hahaha. I really improved my artwork with this jam and even noticed how much I stepped up from the "Level 1 - background design" to the "Level 2 - background design". So I really appreciate the positivity and thank you for the motivational boost :'>

We planned a lot more narrative design and environmental storytelling for the game.. Unfortunately to the lack of time and.. Lets just say private circumstances we were not able to integrate the theme "Kill the rust inside your heart" more.. Some assets too (like soundeffects and some other art assets) are ready to go and only need to be implemented! We'll work on the game after a break and add a lot more features and even planned a bigger "Wiwi-DLC" with more lovels, more content and basically.. Finally integrating the stronger narrative to the game! (Joke name between me and Pika, the other developer xD)

Thank you for the input on the gameplay as well! You are totally right, we first wanted to integrate it as a parry, but unfortunately ran out of time yet again, to fully make it work the way we wanted it to be :< Right now, its just a "Heavy-Attack" which is way slower but deals a lot more damage! In the later DLC we want to make this ability unlockable by defeating another boss and basically mendatory to proceed game progression and reaching another level! (Same thing also with a dash mechanic)

Thank you for your suggestions and duely noted on the hitboxes and animation time! We also plan to add sounds for taking damage, so the feedback is way more transparently communicated with the players! Another thing to add is a bug in the game we were unable to fix.. The so called "Vision-Bug". Basically if the player hits an enemy, all other invisible "Vision-Hitboxes" from the enemies hurt the player, once they entered it.. Which was rather annoying! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Buuuut, we fixed it and will upload updated, once the rating-phase is over! (Fun fact for you: It was just one line of code to fix that issue ;-;)

Ouuuuuh, I am sorry for the issues and that you were not able to get past the "Chroneyes" (Hourglass eye thingy xD) Basically what we wanted here is the player killing 5 frogs (for some reason it activates after 2-3) and after that you unlocked the double jump. You can leave the screen after that when it says "GO!" by going either left and right leaving the screen and returning to level 1. With the new double jump, the player is able to get up and proceed to level 2.

Again.. Thank you so much for your suggestions to the gameplay, positive words and taking your time writing your feedback.. We really really appreciate it and what I can tell from my side.. With your text you really helped me to stay motivated, keep drawing and game designing in general..

All the love <3 ~ KitsuneTuzak (Alucifex)

Thank you for your Feedback!! <3

Unfortunately we had no time left to add some content to the game (e.g. Soundtracks, Abbilities or Soundeffects :<)

Buuuuut what I can tell.. We already have the material for some sounddesign ready to go and will add them to the game as soon as possible (after a small resting phase xD)

Thank youuuu <3

I really put heart and soul into that xD

Thank youuuu <3

Awwwww, thank you so much for your feedback <3

I really put heart and soul into the title screen and backgrounds.. xD
It was my third jam overall and I am not much of a professional artist.. But I am drawing more and more and thanks to the jam I think I slowly improved more and more!

Duely noted with the animations and stun duration! And you are right.. We had a rather unfortunate so called "Vision-Bug" in the game and we both didn't know how to fix it... (But its fixed now and we'll update the version after the rating xD).. Basically if the player struck an enemy, the invisible "Vision-Hitbox" of the frogs damages the player once they entered it.. That annoyed me and Pika as well.. >:(

Thank you so much for your comment and feedback <3

Unfortunately you are right.. We used some exclamation marks and it seems like the font didnt like that.. Even though it worked fine in the playtesting :<

Another thing to add, we had a so called "Vision-Bug" in the game:
Basically  if the main character struck an enemy, every other frogs "Vision-Hitbox" counted as a hit towards the player once they entered that invisible hitbox. We both were unable to fix this issue and had to release the game as it was, but gladly its fixed now! So after the rating phase we can upload a fixed version. <3

Thank you for your feedback on the platforming section as well! Duely noted and we'll also work on the Level-Design! That double jump at the level 2 section also seemed like its "pixel-perfect" so we will decrease the difficulty on some of the jumps!

Based, loved the sliding and the artwork.. I AM A BIIIRD

This game is absolute cinema.. I have nothing to say.. Really touched and got me emotionally.. I nearly cried in the end :'(
