I see & you did a great job. I would definitely play a full version of the game.

Thanks for playing! I am no artist but I am pleased with how the visuals/tones came out.

Interesting concept, and the subtle variations did play with my mind a bit (in a good way) ; I wasn't sure if there was an actual progression/end or if the loop is endless?

Glad you had fun, thanks for playing!

Thank you for the kind words!

Thanks! I initially wanted to spend some time on a build-up/narration but ultimately chose to focus all my effort on gameplay & the arcade-feel.

Thank you for the kind words - glad the retro aspect shone through.

Thanks, my initial design was more of a slime mold / infection type of monster with dendrils/tendrils (you can actually see this in one of the gifs I shared over Discord in the progress section), but this first attempt just ended up not being fun so I scrapped it. I am glad I did because this second draft ended up being much more dynamic & conducive to forcing the player down in an organic way.

Glad you liked it ; I've tinkered with the PICO-8 before following tutorials and such but this is my first 'actual' game with it. I'll definitely be using it some more in the future.

"I played for 10 seconds and died 11 times." - Do I have my first speedrunner :) ?

Thanks for playing!

Thank you for playing!

Thanks, I'll take that!

Thanks! I've covered my intentions with the gun in previous comments in case you are curious. As for the camera seeing further down, that is good feedback ; just not sure how I would incorporate this yet : I wanted to keep a balance between risk taking to score faster / evade the Scyphon, and being overly cautious, resulting in the Scyphon catching up & flinging you about.

224? Not too shabby! My best score so far is 552 ; I could have probably made the game a little bit easier on the platforms, but I wanted to keep the gameplay loop pretty short.

Thank you for the kind words and for playing!

Thanks for playing! Glad you liked the monster design. I did have to can my first attempt entirely and start from scratch again but I am quite pleased with how it turned out in the end.

I tried to run it, unfortunately it crashes on boot :

Fun parkour game with an unsettling/etherreal atmosphere. My only criticism is the dialog box block user input which can break the flow of the game a bit at times.

I liked the sprites & use of parallax ; there is definitely an eery feel to skimming across the universe like that. I do wish there was more of an explanation of what to do, I ended up just gliding into a corner of the map & was left pretty unscaved.

The story was engaging & perfectly eldritch, I enjoyed that!

Well done on getting something submitted, we can get a glimpse of where you were going with it.

Very eery game, nailed the eldritch vibe in my books.

I eventually managed to unzip it using 7zip. Creepy ambiance/visuals which reminds me of some of the Amnesa/Penumbra games.

Really liked the art style & atmosphere, especially the 2D billboards, reminiscent of Don't Starve, in a good way.

Very neat game mechanics & the voice recognition worked quite well. Also the voice acting was very good & in theme. Also respect for making & using your own custom engine for this!

Interesting setting & visuals. I just wasn't sure how I was meant to "retrieve the coal from the brazier", as none of the keys appeared to do anything. Also, my character could only walk sideways like crab which was a tad unsettling.

The atmosphere (both visual & audio) was well done and creepy as it should, so kudos for that! I managed to get to about 40m before my sanity ran out ; is there a way to get your sanity back up?

Cool gameplay/bullet patterns, and well done on making all of the content by yourself!

Looks and plays like an eldritch-inspired Papers Please / Mars After Midnight. That was an enjoyable few minutes, well done. It did seem as though the game biased towards non-guests, out of all of them, only 3 were allowed to their room in the end (and I made no mistakes).

Cute pixel art style. To this day, I am still looking for something... :)

Captivating (and dark) premise which ended quite abruptly as I was being sucked into it.

How do I start the game? I am unable to 'Play' due to my input (either keyboard or mouse) being ignored.

Love the chunky pixel art & audio! I tried a few combinations but couldn't quite get to the right concoction. Are there meant to be clues anywhere to help (e.g. the book in the top right has some vague info, but nothing that I interpreted as a hint), or is it more guesswork?

The little critter design is cute, love it. I reached the bottom (0m) and nothing happens, am I missing something?

"I found the gun kind of pointless" - intentionally so :)... but perhaps poorly conveyed...

Simple yet effective gameplay ; took me a little while to work out how the dice roll / combat system worked though.

Thanks for the compliments on art & music. As for the gun, the fact you cannot aim 'up' (or whilst airborne) is intentional, I did not want to give the player too much incentive to linger & spend all their time trying to defeat the Scyphon, after all it cannot be killed ; In retrospect, I could have done a better job presenting this constraint to the player.

Thanks, this is my first 'full' PICO-8 game, after tinkering with it a bit. I really only scratched the surface & I'll definitely be using it more in the future.

As for shooting the monster, I didn't quite manage to incorporate the gun as well as I was hoping ; the intention really was for it to buy you a bit of time/respite by disabling one or multiple tentacles temporarily (at the risk of you getting flung off in attempting to land a shot).

The artstyle is great, well done. I don't know if I encountered a bug but the cards started changing value randomly as I placed them (e.g. place a '1' and a '5' appears on the table)
