I've had an itch account for a very short time. Not ashamed to say i was downloading games without one (left a lot of comments on devs i like today) but i think we should all clear some things up about this game.
This game is really really really good. But not at everything.
Mechanics: A bit easy sometimes, but solid. Plays like black souls 2 without the cooldowns. Along with a new bar for morale and allat. 7/10
Visuals: Probably the weakest link, it's RTP. There's only so much you can do with good lighting and shading and no parralax lighting. 5/10
Character Designs: Honestly its really great for what it is. As an original product I'll say a solid 5/10. A little unoriginal since well, RTP is RTP but what can you do. (Though compared to other RTP games it's a 9/10, i've never seen better use of unedited RTP. The use of character generator for clean and unique expressions is on point)
UX: This game feels really smooth to play, and the settings are great. A couple bugs here and there but it's patched fast enough not to be an issue. It's also like 600 mb which is basically a 30 second download.
Writing: This is where the game is either gonna kill your interest or grab it. It's something. On a technical level it's really impressive. You can tell the writer has lots of experience. But tonally it's very...let's say crass. It shifts between high and low brow a lot which can feel a bit jarring if you aren't into it. I think if I had to compare it to anything it'd be like Konosuba meets Lessons in Love by Selebus. The dark aspects get really miserable. And the comedy aspects get really meta. Meaning the writing is gonna be love it or hate it. But having played this game a while I can say if you're into the post ironic satire and don't find it cringe or confusing, it'll be one of the best things you've ever read outright. 10/10.
Characters: This is the game's strongest point. They're unserious, they're stupid, and they're my favorite RPG cast of all time. Their chemistry is the highlight of the game for sure. And that alone makes it worth the 5.
Worldbuilding: This game's world feels unreal, but that makes it realer? its hard to explain. tbh I don't know 90% of what the theory people are yapping about but they seem interested.
Music: Pretty great, not much to say. One of the better RPG Maker OSTs but nothing really groundbreaking.
Overall: This game is either the best or worst game you've played. I think putting it this high on itch ratings might be deceptive to a general audience though. So I'm putting this out at a sort of PSA.
Tl;dr this game stands on vibe mostly. But I can safely say it's one of if not the best written MZ game I've ever played in terms of characters and general conversational rhythm, it's just...it's just literally Lessons in Konosuba. Dialog is a bit project moon'ey but just keep in mind you might REALLy hate this game.
