A well-crafted story that can stand on its own while leaving me ravenous for the story to follow when the full novel is finished. Morality Pet Part 1 is one of the best takes on vampire fiction I've interacted with, focusing on the horror that is the existence of vampires and how society would have to adapt around them instead of romanticizing the concept.

Rather than the typical secret world of magic trope, this book explores "what if vampires were a known entity" and builds up the logical ramifications of having to adapt to a society around a demographic that predates on human but also were once human while also contending with the preconceived notion that they were *only* once human.
A haunting horror drama in a small town exploring the natural conclusions of a lifetime spent hunting something that may have more humanity than you realized and what happens when someone you care about becomes something you never considered could still think for themself.
