I just got the base target and got away. I finished the game safely. Is anyone willing to give it a shot?

I got to the last stage (base) and shot the target. The first time I did this it said that I had finished my mission. Now I've destroyed the target and it's impossible to get back up again, so I crashed. What are you supposed to do to complete the mission the 2nd time????

I just finished the game. I challenge all to beat me.
